βAmericaβs labor movement has been going through a transition over the last decade that is far more layered and nuancedβββand that holds more potential for future growthβββthan the BLS annual membership survey reveals.β New leaders & organizational forms having an impactβ @lanewindham.bsky.social
Looking below the recent union membership numbers @lanewindham.bsky.social finds signs of hope for a union movement that is battling considerable headwinds.

Activist & historian Bob Bussel on his 102yr old father, who fought Hitler, saw his B-17 crew mates killed, & ended up in a POW camp, & how the children, grandchildren & great grandchildren of those who fought fascism in the 1940s are carrying on the fight today. eugeneweekly.com/2026/02/05/m...
It was a labor of love to collaborate with my friend Bob Bussel the former director of U of Oregon's Labor Education and Research Center (LERC) on this remembrance of Nick Salvatore, Eugene Debs's biographer, and a mentor and dear friend to us both. Nick's story has special meaning in this time.
What we're seeing from the people of Minnesota didn't come from nowhere - it comes from an organized/empowered working class supported by unions and community orgs sharing goals for the common good!
Check out the KI's report on the recent history of labor/community in MN!

Nurses like Alex Pretti at the MN VA Hospital were represented by AFGE Local 3669. What is AFGE going to do about the blatantly false statement about Pretti issued today by its affiliate union, the National Border Patrol Council? If the NBPC won't disavow those lies, AFGE should disaffiliate them.

Zohran: "I mean, think about when you fly. βWe have made it such a difficult experience to go through TSA that there's now a financial incentive to sign up for a separate program that can move you through it quicker. We have monetized the dysfunction."
i want to be clear about this: workerβs rights also includes the right to be free from racist or sexist or gendered abuse at your job.
Here @anandwrites.bsky.social brilliantly explains what email reveals about the "Epstein class," showing how the mores of today's version of what C.Wright Mills once called the power elite suggest that their "highest commitment is to their own permanence" as an elite.

Universities spend gazillions on EdTech software that doesnβt serve faculty or student interests and often doesnβt work well. But what if we got off that path and leveraged internal resources to produce non-profit systems? Hereβs a proposal to leverage the CUNY systems platforms.
Tapper: Angus King said standing up to Donald Trump didn't work.
Sanders: Maybe Angus didn't notice the elections on Tuesday. I thought that they worked pretty well.
It was predictable that many liberal Zionists would oppose anti-Zionismβs βpolitical normalizationβ in the NYC mayoral race. The more surprising story of the campaign is not liberal Zionist opposition to Mamdani, but their support, @peterbeinart.bsky.social writes.

NYC electing Mamdani, a democratic socialist, is a reminder that 1) Socialism has a long history in the US and 2) Americans actually LOVE socialism.

βDemocrats are uncomfortable exercising power and because they lack a coherent or compelling vision for their party or how it would run the country.β
Tonight was a very bad night.
Because who's more qualified to direct air traffic? A "true patriot", or a trained air traffic controller?
Are Laura Loomer or Hershel Walker going to be directing aircraft over New York?
There will be no need to limit air travel if that happens.

More Trump madness as he urges any controllers who took sick time during the shutdown to quit. Imagine the impact that would have on a system that is already having to reduce traffic this week. Fortunately, very few people take anything this man says seriously. www.newsweek.com/faa-flight-d...
Screenshot of headline reading: Trump administration asks Supreme Court to halt order providing full SNAP payments for November
Trump would rather let 42 million Americans go hungry than admit he broke the law.
Itβs always been plausible. A widely coordinated sickout isnβt necessary. A few scattered actions in strategic facilities could effectively disrupt the system. But unlike 2019 it isnβt clear which side would feel forced to βcaveβ if that happened. Perhaps thatβs one reason why it hasnβt happened yet
An important study with very encouraging results. Cities and states should pay attention to these findings and give workers a break.
