I think that makes him notably less likely to be a good senator, but im genuinely not sure it makes him a worse campaigner
If I punch you in the face but you then punch me back, it's not okay if you punch back slightly harder than I punched you
Or have some issues they feel so passionate about that it blinds everything else.
Beware an intelligent person who is highly motivated to believe something because it is core to their identity (also true of the left, of course)
Its weird to be up at this hour as an American and find Liam posting earnest and insightful thoughts.
I keep waiting for the ironic/sarcastic hammer to drop and then it never does and im confused for a moment before I realize: "wait, he's just posting actual analysis right now"
Wittgensteiiiin! Get in my office right now and hand in your badge!
It should change your view of him, imo.
Like, my friends often accuse me of being racist, but I always reply: "but did you know that I sometimes converse on social media with a Leverhulme prize winning philosopher -- who is *Black*?"
They always apologize for doubting my commitment to equity
Sounds a lot like its just mirroring Trumps existing approval numbers (maybe a point or two above)
My favorite misreading of that movie is people thinking the Irish dancing is supposed to be lame and boring
This but unironically when it comes to Tom:

Trump: "forever wars are good, actually"
You do not, under any circumstances, "gotta hand it" to Nick Fuentes.
That makes you an Yglesias sympathizer -- we call those "VichYglesias"
I use both sites. On twit, I will frequently see people post these extreme responses to stuff like this or describe Bluesky as "melting down," and I come back over to Bluesky and think: "Seems normal and fine?"
I have to assume some people create the most toxic feeds, then get mad at the toxicity
George Packer: If recent decades have taught anything, itβs that the absence of tyranny is not freedom but chaos; that war is a likelier agent of disintegration than of renewal; that America knows how to destroy regimes but not remake societies. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
And while no op-ed publisher is *perfect,* the NYT, imo, does a better job than almost anyone else of publishing a wide range of diverse opinions, even if I think a lot of those opinions are dumb.
This is also my criticism of Bari Weiss' op-ed decisiions, fwiw.
It's rare that I find a Free Press op-ed or CBS roundtable inherently totally unacceptable; they aren't publishing NewsMax conspiracy garbage.
The problem is that on certain topics, their opinions skew heavily towards on conclusion
For the many Platner fans here, Peters is a white supremacist, Holocast denying / antisemetic, virulently anti-trans anti-gay right-wing influencer. There's no lack of people making similar points that Platner could be reading and promoting who are not nazis.
I don't understand this coordinated response of Dems going, "Trump owes us an explanation for attacking Iran!"
Do they expect his failure to provide one will produce a politically advantageous gotcha? Come on. Just say the war is stupid, wasteful and it should cease. Stop being weak and terrible.
You can hear the disbelief in his voice. His government has done this to countless cities not just in Gaza but in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran, and until this very moment he thought they couldn't do it back. He thought the Iron Dome would keep him safe from consequence.
Im genuinely not arguing the objective merits of this, I am only talking about what is popular and what people want.
Please note that this doesnt mean we should do something just because it's popular -- Im just saying I DO think that approach would be prove quite popular with the American people.
I think that approach would be reasonably popular? I mean you may not agree, but lots of people:
1) Don't like Ayatollah Khomenei, but
2) Dont want to risk American lives to take him down.
For a lot of people "blow stuff up, leave" is the best of both worlds
And in the modern world, just knowing that at least one woman somewhere thinks this man is good is a huge endorsement
US real-time GDP growth from Augur Infinity hovering near the best levels in 4 years... since the COVID boom
I would settle for "in the present, we can return to the future" for at least the next 100 years
a meme of "This man is your FRIEND He fights for FREEDOM" poster but with Claude
Didn't SPLC used to publish explanations for their designations, publicly available on their website? Did I just make that up?
