Today, within 5 minutes of meeting me, a repair man suggested I go to one of those places where you pay to smash things ...
I guess I'm projecting a lot of unresolved anger! I wonder why!
Colorado folks, it's not just in your head, Colorado has experienced one of the largest increases in ICE arrests in Trump 2.0 around the country.
And almost all of this increase is from indiscriminate arrests of people on the street, at their workplaces, at their homes, etc
Immensely grateful to share an amicus brief on birthright citizenship, submitted to SCOTUS last week.
We present esta of the impacted child population (4.8 mil children in next 20 yrs alone!) + financial contributions through 2074 under status quo ($7.7 trillion!).

"If lawmakers are concerned with public safety in Colorado, immigration enforcement is not the way to achieve improved public safety.
We show that here in Colorado with the data, but thatβs also true across the whole country."

Important & timely working paper from East, Cox, and my colleague @caitlinpatler.bsky.social
Trump II systematically using "community arrests" (ICE arrests on the street, workplace, in the community, etc) and not targeting immigrants w/ criminal convictions
NBER link: www.nber.org/system/files...
Just how unprecedented is the ongoing immigration enforcement crackdown? We answer those questions and more in our new NBER working paper.

5) ICE tactics in 2025 differ across areas. In 2025, there were distinct increases in Community Arrests in regions generally controlled by Democrats, which far exceed patterns observed during the first Trump Administration.
4) This change in methods explains much, but not all, of the decline in % with a criminal conviction among those arrested in 2025. Even among those arrested at law enforcement facilities, the % with a criminal conviction is falling
3) Arrests in 2025 done using different methods than in 2017 -- more arrests taking place in the community versus in law enforcement facilities
New @nber.org paper with @caitlinpatler.bsky.social &
@elizabethacox.bsky.social out!
We examine how ICE arrests differ in Trump 2.0 vs. 1.0
Key Findings π§΅
1) MANY more arrests in Trump 2.0 than 1.0
2) When arrests spike, % arrested w criminal conviction falls

Happy to chat with you about these findings and the broader implications! Thanks!

"the arrest, detention, and deportation of a parent or other family member reduces family income; and ... undocumented adults may work less due to chilling effects or a reduction in their legal ability to work. Thus, U.S.-born teenagers may need to work to help their family make up for lost income."
