Lots of 'common sense' ideas about human nature and psychology are from studies on Western college students. I wrote about applying the book 'The WEIRDest People in the World' to your #worldbuilding and #writing here: worldbuildingbookclub.substack.com/p/the-weirde...
One of my favorite parts of #sinners was that when they all get turned into vamps, they start clapping on one and three of the music instead of two and four
I need a band of adventurers on a heist to get bingo

#Fantasy #writing bingo board! This was a fun game in one of my writing discords.
What's it about?
New season of #drwho was so fun! I didn't think I'd like the switch from sci fi to fantasy but I found it refreshing
Anyone have good #philosophy #bookrecommendations? I don't love the Ancient Greeks, and my library doesn't have any of the Chinese classics (although I'd love to read more about Mencius or Mohism).
Fun fact of the day: The original meaning of sycophant in ye olde Greece was a fig-finder

finished the Kant book finally! I always associated him with deontology and duty, not thinking much beyond that. I did not realize how much of modern lower-case L liberalism emerged from him, too.
Lots of #worldbuilding thoughts based on it

Agreed, I'm excited by the idea that AI could help with medical research. There have been some false starts (a sepsis detection AI that used "prescribed antibiotics" as its main variable for diagnosing sepsis [which is an infection]) but I think that's a reason to improve our methods, not give up.
Just read Blood over Bright Haven and cannot stop thinking about it. Gotta get everything else by the same author now. Just a great piece of art. #writing #bookreview #butabadbookreview #becauseIprovidednodetails #anyway #thisishowtagsworkonbskyisn'tit
I do a lot of data analysis where the data is in PDFs, and I've found ChatGPT is really good at turning an uncopy-able PDF table into a copy-able table.
That said, I'm totally open for another piece of software that did the same thing faster and with less compute.
Close up of the Murderbot helmet, being held by one of the props people. You can see the careful scarring and damage added by props, which I felt was one of the elements that highlighted the creativity of everyone who worked on the show.
I just thought this sign in the lunch area was cool. It says "Sanctuary" because that's the code word Apple was using for the show at the time. This area was also used for people who just needed a table to work on. When the unit publicist was interviewing me, there was a props person working on making the pieces of one of the weapons look like it had been blown apart in an explosion.
This is a run-through of the scene we got to watch filmed the day we were there. We were sitting on a bench inside the hopper. You can see Noma Dumezweni, Akshay Khanna, Alexander SkarsgΓ₯rd, and Sabrina Wu, some not in costume yet. There's also a crew member standing in the back.
This is part of the gigantic camera that extended through into the back of the hopper. Also you can see the two monitors, one for the big camera and one for (I think) the steadycam. This is where we sat for most of the day, in a little area in front of the monitors where the producers and guests sit. You have to be careful moving around the soundstage, especially when the lights are down. It was so big it was easy to get lost.
A few more photos, hopefully to brighten a sucktastic day. Some were taken by me and some by @troyce.bsky.social #murderbot Descriptions in the alt text.
Just read a book where I don't think the MC failed at even one goal. He just succeeded and then went on to the next one.
I doubt I'd have noticed that a few years ago, before I started trying to think about plot structures, but now it stands out. Kind of exciting!!

If I bring up trade or prices with my players (many of whom do economics), that's a whole session worth of discussion right there π
Just finished Karen Rhea Nemet-Nejat's Daily Life in Ancient Mesopotamia. One obliquely #worldbuilding related fact was the list of Ninurta's temple staff, which included:
a snake charmer
a miller
an oil presser
a boat tower
a weaver
the king's butler
and a barber
(among many others).
Good book!
This History of Kantian Ethics library book has been guilting me for weeks now... the intro was great, I just need to find that level of philosophical motivation #philosophy
One thing that shocked me about the kidney donation process was how willing they were to send a phlebotomist to my apartment.
The process was so easy, and that's just the first step of the donation process. Kudos to the folks making this work.

These are awesome!
Disappointed to find out that you can't make lists of arbitrary things under the "list" feature but rather must make lists of other users.
I wanted to make a list of my favorite books about boats.
Alas, the world will have to wait for my Boat Book Opinions.
