We finished Sentimental Value tonight. Got a whole lot less funny in the second half.
An acting loverβs dream.

This is a comedy, right? Cuz Iβm laughing at a lot of dark shit.
Knocking another Oscar Movie off the list. Coming into Sentimental Value completely ignorant. Huge fan of Elle Fanning though( The Great for the win!), so Iβm excited.
Letβs just say I will be rooting for it to prove to many people there is an appetite for stuff like this : )
#1 - This looks really fun.
#2 - While it treads in spots Tart does, I think itβs very much its own, cool thing.
#3 - Iβm going to need you all to read Tart before it comes out to see that we didnβt steal from them.

Thrilled to be on the Sweet Shop.
And to sweeten the deal, first issue of every series is FREE.
One of my favorite videos of biochar production.
A retelling of the Greek myths with an LGTBQ cast of characters. 13 issues of comics bundled up into a GORGEOUS package @kickstarter.com www.kickstarter.com/projects/mk-...
The numbers are self-evident. Almost every Kickstarter campaign that has ever reached 50% has eventually reached its goal (I do have to give @tylerjames.bsky.social credit for this observation though). Letβs get Jeff over this first hump!
Every single time I watch anything Lord & Miller were allowed to complete, I get sadder about Solo.
A perfectly fine/fun Star Wars movie. But one that would have been great if either they or Ron Howard had been in control from start to finish.
This message brought to you by Into the Spider-Verse.
Our booth. There are various comic hardcovers including Yart, and woodwork available.
Our first sale was the fractured fairy tale anthology βNot so Fair Tales.β
Experimenting with a booth at the new place in my area called Painted Tree Boutiques. Itβs basically a permanent craft fair. Seeing if I can get some books out into the world, and showing off my brotherβs wood art, as well.
Great bonus. But as someone who had an EXTREMELY MILD case of Shingles when I was in my 20βs; get this vaccine whether you want to age well or not.
Again EXTREMELY MILD case. And it was torture.
early sign ups are now open for FEED THEM TO THE CROWS #1, written by @jamesfergcomics.com and I
itβs a dark revenge drama β akin to FRIGHT NIGHT meets THE LITTLE THINGS β about an orphan who finally gets his hands on the monster who killed his mother years ago.

Works for almost every situation where stuff isnβt working like you expected it to.
The greatest gift God gave us was domesticated animals. The worst prank God pulled on us was the lifespan of our domesticated animals.
So much joy. So much pain. But the pain is absolutely worth it for the joy
I think if you magically turned into a dog, youβd have to work on your insults.

New writing goal. Write something powerful enough that I give one (even just one) reader the emotional payoff of the βWhatβs Up Dangerβ/ Take the Leap moment in Into the Spider-Verse.
I liked F1. I promise. But I have no clue how it ended up on the Best Picture list (tech awards OF COURSE!).
Frankenstein is a gothic character study/horror.
One Battle After Another is an absurdist focus of the current American discourse and psyche.
And F1 is fast cars go zoom zoom!
Iβm really pleased with how unique most of the Best Picture Nominees are to each other (that Iβve seen).
Bogonia is funny, and scary and confusing.
Train Dreams is a vibe of extrospection (made that word up) and meloncolia.
Sinners is a horror historical fiction action & musical extravaganza.
I knew nothing about Train Dreams coming in. It was certainly poignant and powerful.
I may never watch it again, but Iβm thinking I need to read the novella to experience it in a different way.
Not that only artists can learn from it, but it is more artist-centric than the others.
I just learned from you about the reviewing comics book J. Zub recommended. Iβll have to read that soon!
My pleasure. Understanding Comics does SO MUCH that itβs always my first one to give to people starting out. Other good ones besides Bendis are Alan Mooreβs βWriting Comicsβ & βComics & Sequential artβ by Will Eisner. Eisnerβs is the last I advise reading because itβs higher level art instruction.
Understanding Comics first. McCloudβs book gives you a very strong base to build off of. Bendisβ advice is great, but more additive than structural, in my opinion.
After the John Candy documentary my wife has convinced me to fill in a crazy hole in my movie watching history. Itβs honestly insane I havenβt ever watched it as I love John Hughes, John Candy and am a Macauley Culkin apologist/cultist to boot.
I keep hearing that the Epstein files are so big if we held everyone accountable everything would collapse. And no it wouldnβt. These rich guys donβt do any actual work. They arenβt actually important or useful they are just rich.
We watched the John Candy documentary βI like meβ tonight. Lovely. Sad. Funny. Beautiful.
Bonus: I was introduced to one of the funniest sketches Iβve ever seen:

The drunk uncle theory.
You donβt argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows thereβs safe people and better possibilities out there
