Currently it does not have to be enforced and actually has no legal basis so even if a Minister goes against the Code of Conduct there doesn’t have to be consequences
Enforcing the Code of Conduct could be a great step towards restoring public trust in Government Ministers
It is supposed to ensure that ministers behave to a higher standard expected by those in positions of power. It covers things like how MPs should treat their staff, telling the truth in Parliament and forbids actions like accepting bribes.
What is the Ministerial Code of Conduct?
The Ministerial Code is a set of guidelines of conduct for Government Ministers. Ministers are MPs and Members of the House of Lords

The public NEED to see movement on politicians being trustworthy and held to account.
Which is why the put people first coalition is calling for stop the lying as one of our campaign asks. So that trust can be restored in politics
If the public see politicians as untrustworthy they treat them with contempt and are less likely to be involved in the democratic process
Only 14% of the public trust politicians to tell the truth. [source The Common Ground Report P.43] Lack of trust in politicians means people are less likely to get involved in democracy.

❓What does that mean? It means the bill is now being examined in detail and every part of it needs to be agreed. It usually takes about eight days but it can go on for longer.
We think this is a good first step but more can be done to clean up politics.
At Put People First we are calling for radical reform of the House of Lords to make sure politics is for everyone.
