My son has instituted a ban on his own phone in classes during his freshman year of college. Not sure what the school policy is. Fingers crossed.
This year @dcpublicschools.bsky.social implemented a ban on phones and all screened devices. Caught up w a friend that teaches High School who said the change has been transformative and given him more optimism than heβs had in years.
This is awesome, I hope schools nationwide follow suit!

A fight/action sequence in a film/TV show is a story. If I am so deep in the story from a camera proximity or motion perspective (shaky, violent, close up) I am seeing LESS of the whole story. I understand the appeal of immersion, but I need to also get the whole story.

I had a great discussion with friends over dinner about what genres of popular culture will and wonβt remain timeless. My hot take was the theory that reality TV will eventually be something we look back on as very dated. Curious what others might think.
