Daughterβs iWatch 3 wonβt charge. Repair services exceed value. Will probably disassemble it because whatβs to loose?
A) Replacing 3/4β copper trunk pipe with individual 1/2β PEX-A
B) Helping friend replace obsolete factory PLCs w something modern
C) Helping daughter repair refrigeratorβs ice maker
D) Trying to repair daughterβs iWatch 3

3 dog beds in a row. A large towel (adjacent to the beds) that is covered with colorful dog toys
Our beagle Lola had orthopedic surgery yesterday. A FHO. We pick her up today from MedVet Chicago, 5-hr drive ea way. Beds are vaccinated and toys are washed.
Yummm
An 8-port PEX-A manifold (thatβs made from (2) 4-port manifolds). Ea w a quarter-turn shutoff valve. The 8th port is a spare and is capped off. This is for hot water and so the PEX pipe is red. Where the pipe bends sharply 90 degree brackets are used. The manifold is adjacent to 3/4β copper hot water line and is currently held in place with Ty-wraps. 4 ports go left and 4 ports go right.
had time this wkend to work on time-to-hot plumbing proj. Converting 3/4β copper trunks to individual 1/2β PEX-A. the 7 individual runs are in place & are terminated on the manifold. Next Iβll tie in the manifold to the 3/4β copper from hot water heater (manifold currently held in place w ty-wraps)
Wow. Looks amazing. Beautiful
Daughter said he jeepβs rear defroster stopped working. We discovered one terminal had torn off the horizontal conductive silver(?) buss. We cleaned both surfaces and successfully soldered it back together. Win π
Hot manifold near hot water heater
Used 90 degree brackets vs elbows/fittings
Nice straight parallel PEX pipes
More nice straight parallel PEX pipes
I had some time this afternoon to work on my basement plumbing project. Ran (3) 1/2β PEX-A pipes from manifold to east side of the house - kitchen sink, dishwasher, washing machine.
Disassembled ice maker
Repairing a refrigerator ice maker
Helped daughter diagnose her refrigeratorβs ice maker. Her model has a dedicated evaporator for the ice maker. A fan draws that cold air over the ice cube tray. That fan malfunctioned. We tested it on my bench. New fan from digikey.com $15, delivered. Some appliance part sites wanted ~$100+
I feel that @wesbos.com may know. Iβve heard him talk about related things on their syntax.fm podcast.
I follow @jensimmons.bsky.social and she knows a lot about safari. Maybe she can assist.
Nice. Iβll try it next time Iβm in that situation. But also itβs a reminder that the assistant can help in lots of ways
Nice. Would you do anything different if you did it again? Design? Materials? Fabrication?
Wow. That was amazingly interesting
Oh nooo. So sorry. Iβm a dad of 3, soβ¦
Homemade/custom PEX-A hot water manifold. It has two 4-port manifolds cascaded together. One is pointed to the left while the other is pointed to the right, which maps to the fixture locations, half on one side of the house, half on the other side of the house. All eight ports have a quarter-turn 1/2β PEX-A shut off valve. One end of the manifold is closed, while the other hand has a couple of 3/4β copper fittings that will adapt to existing hot water copper.
Making a hot water PEX-A manifold - so I can remove long 3/4β copper runs and use 1/2 PEX instead. So fixtures get hot water quicker. Math says 3/4β copper ID versus 1/2β PEX ID is a ratio of 2.7 to 1
Wait. What?! Will try this first thing Monday morning
Hand drawing of a t-shirt and a camper w campers.
Thank you card from grandson: βThank you for the Mario T-shirt. Thank you for the LEGO camper. They are both fun!β
My parents said the drinks in their (detached) garage refrigerator are exploding because the fridge is freezing from the ambient being 0F. Bottles and cans. Brr.
A guy installing an ac receptacle. Also visible are PEX red blue supply pipes and a 2β pvc drain
A white combination washer dryer. Black refrigerator to the left
Helped install a combination washer dryer. On a kitchen. Because the gal canβt reasonably access the main laundry in the basement. Brought in hot cold drain and electric.
Oh wow. Back then my son happened upon a promotion where heβd earn points when he used a new browser (Bing). Heβd redeem points & receive Microsoft hardware in the mail. Game controllers, mp3 player (zune?), Bluetooth headset, etc.
As a suspicious parent, I asked WTH heβs receiving gear for free?!
Three dogs being fed snacks. On the left is a dachshund wearing a purple hoodie, and the center is a dachshund (white with spots). On the right is a bagel named Lola. Lola is wearing a red winter coat
Daughter stopped by with her dog, left. Red coat is Lola:beagle. White and spotted is Wiggles/dachshund. It was a great visit
These pics are beautiful. My fav is the cherry(?) tree. Thx.
Oh now that looks amazing. For me itβs 545a and Iβm trying to be quiet because others are sleeping. *Donβt start cooking*. *Donβt start cooking*. *Donβt start cooking*.
Clothes washer. Lid removed
Clothes washer, motor parts
Clothes washer, new main bearing
Clothes washer, removed the drum
Replaced the main bearing in our clothes washer. Two steps were difficult:
1) finding trick to remove control panel from the top
2) separating/removing drum from main shaft
Iβm currently testing it. No weird noises nor leaks so far .
