After 20 years leading St. Cloud, today was Dave Kleis’ first day of retirement.

‘You can’t let it be lost’: Paynesville-area residents revive Christmas service in long-shuttered church ‘Can you feel the nostalgia? It’s dripping from the ceiling,’ said a retired clergyman Saturday at Salem Historical Church’s annual holiday program.

Organizing a once-a-year service in a shuttered church is no small feat. It takes hours to dust and sweep the hordes of dead bugs from the pews. Tinsel must be draped on the tree. And it takes a village to bake enough Christmas cookies to serve at the program.
