Also, it made me realize that, although I often say that I only became a PC gamer with the release of the Steam Deck, PC was actually quite formative for me — and that’s despite also playing games at the time on VIC-20, C64, Atari VCS, Intellivision, etc.
Alright, I couldn’t let it go, so redid the 9games thing, one for PC and one for consoles — for me it’s not about the best games I’ve ever played, but the ones I feel had the biggest impact on my tastes.
The more I think about it, so many games I could have included, like King’s Quest, Might & Magic, F-19, Airborne Ranger, Commandos, more Infocom titles (like Hitchhiker’s)…

The game that had me the most interested from yesterday’s Indie World showcase was Minishoot’ Adventures, and so I picked it up and I’m really digging it. Basically a combo of two of my favourite things: Zelda and shmups.
Zero Parades: For Dead Spies is from the studio that did Disco Elysium (minus some key team members), and it definitely has that same cool vibe to it. I liked what I experienced so far, and love the TRPG elements.
I mentioned Awaysis a few months back when they first released a demo, and this time around I find myself getting better at the sliding mechanic (the combat involves using terrain physics to your advantage).
Replaced is a 2D sidescroller in a cyberpunk setting with superb pixel art, a good amount of platforming, and a fun little combat system (charging up and using your gun is really fun and satisfying).
Another one from Dadako, Spy Drops Gaiden basically plays — and looks — like Metal Gear on Gameboy, and that’s a fun thing.
Bad Pixels pays homage to the Amiga demo scene — in so many fun ways — with a boomer shooter gameplay. This one’s by my old friend Dadako, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the finished game is like.
Titanium Court is weird, unique, charming, oh, and did I say weird? I love the aesthetic, and the odd storytelling — and although it’s hard to properly describe what it’s about, the main mechanic does revolve around match-3 gameplay.
Considering how much time I’ve spent on Vampire Survivors, I was pretty curious about this follow up, an I… liked it! Didn’t yet feel the addiction of Survivors, but I certainly had a lot of fun, and I do want to play more.
I always try to take in a few demos during Steam’s Next Fest, and so here’s what I played this time around (all played on my Steam Deck).
You should really pick this up if you don’t already have it.

This looked really interesting, so not only did I pick up this issue 7, I also picked up a bundle of the first six issues (which are also on sale right now).
And these too — everything shared has been played on Switch 2, which continues to be my favorite place to play games.

I’ve been dealing with a health situation over the past 2-3 weeks, and the following games have helped keep me sane during this time (as well as watching tons of movies, which I’ll share in a separate thread).
Finally got around to reading The Knives — the latest Criminal book — and it really is a terrific read. Can’t recommend it enough.
