Tbh this argument also misunderstands where & how this information is made accessible. And reading abt, say, Reconstruction & Jim Crow illustrates how these knowledgeways really can be destroyed w devastating consequences. But don't take my word for it. You're quoting me abt a widespread funding crisis in my field created by this regime to suppress this research. I would suggest that you rethink what you're doing here. But you do you.
But even disregarding the history, I struggle to imagine how defunding & suppressing research leads to (more?) of it, instead of to a whole bunch more of "I never learned this."
The various book & research bans, in the U.S. & in repressive regimes elsewhere, created a landscape where that research & writing was nearly impossible. Black History Month, for ex, was created to help expand & draw support for this repressed reserach.
I do quite a bit of my writing for free, but having a job that allows me to research this full time makes a huge difference. It also, as I mention in the thread, allows us to create & preserve resources that enable others to do this work too.

We face a whole hose of existential crises from this fascist regime, its supporters, & collaborators. But what we can't do is accept their zero-sum austerity framing. Funding research is an important front in antifascist struggle. So too is agitation & mutual aid. Together, these empower us to win.
Or, from the vantage point of science & medicine, do we really want to return to the era where rich racist men of leisure get to invent medical knowledge or do testing on marginalized people simply bc they can? That seems, idk, bad. Historically, it has been nothing short of devastating.
I & a lot of folks in my field studying the impact of white supremacy & liberation movements in the U.S. are currently facing the (potential) complete eradication of our funding. What do you think that means for our collective ability to understand & counter the threats we face?
And as the quoted thread makes clear, that research labor is (& should be) repackaged in a variety of ways to amply its impact. But guess what? If we allow this work to be defunded & suppressed, the opportunity to communicate its importance to wider audiences immediately vanishes.
One thing we should be taking away from the fascist crisis is that careful research on the real world is extremely fucking important. Bare minimum that work needs to be funded & expanded for us to have the information & tools necessary to cast off this regime & create a livable world from its ashes.

1) Collect & tell stories from local history taken from working & marginalized communities.
2) Create public spaces where these stories can be shared & discussed.
3) Tie those stories to the ongoing struggles for justice & liberation.

Never accept or deploy the narrative of the empire. Do not repeat their justifications for war or genocide. Just denounce them as lawless & immoral & DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY on those grounds. And while they’re busy stretching themselves thin for plunder & power, become ungovernable.
Our collective susceptibility to this “with us or against us” tactic has bothered me for a long time & I’m grateful Malloy articulates its dangers so clearly. We do not have to legitimize absurd justifications of “civilization” or “self determination” that belie the very meanings of those words.
