Secularism is way better than religious nationalism or theocracy.

We shouldn’t have to vote tactically. We shouldn’t have to painstakingly analyse small sample polls with huge error margins to figure out how to stop our least preferred candidate winning. We shouldn’t have to be bombarded with conflicting party propaganda about who is in front really. It’s madness.

These are problems of capitalism. But I fear they’re not only problems of capitalism. And I hope we can fix them whether or not capitalism ends.
Words matter.
The words “humane” and “welfare,” for #BigAnimalAg and their lobbyists, mean “we won’t sadistically torture you while we exploit, harm and kill you for money”.
When what these words actually mean is “we won’t exploit, harm or kill you at all.”
If we gave even a tenth of the attention to the solutions as we give to the problems of FPTP, we would’ve secured PR a decade ago.

For anyone who wants to understand human psychology, sociology, economics, power and politics, there is no better case study than the way we and our systems and our institutions think about and act towards nonhuman sentient beings.
We humans are against kicking puppies🐶, blowing up sheep, bear-baiting, fur, family separation, dog fighting, maceration, castration, suffocation 🐟, caging, gassing, foie gras, stabbing, cutting off beaks/horns/tails/testicles/eyes 🦐, hunting, slaughterhouses... Right? ✊

Institutions can be sociopathic.
Systems that don’t care operated largely by people who do.
It’s tempting to want to bolt on specific, hard-coded beliefs to the #Sentientism worldview’s “evidence, reason, and compassion for all sentient beings.”
But as soon as any worldview bakes in specific beliefs it becomes, by definition, dogmatic.
Sentientism is anti-dogma.
I’m open to good faith discussions about biocentrism, ecocentrism & considering sentience beyond the animal kingdom.
But sadly, much of the time, they’re driven by people desperate to justify the exploitation of obviously sentient animals.
Which none of these stances can do.
#BigAnimalAg causes harm in SO many ways.
Yet their lobbyists, marketers, public relations people and bought politicians shape our culture so we unthinkingly defend it and make excuses for it.
Surely time is up? What more will it take?

We humans like to pretend we are truth seeking and ethical.
Instead, we tend to start from "what I and those around me believe must be true" and "what I and those around me do must be moral."
Then we work backwards to justify ourselves.
Can we find the bravery to think and act differently?
My guess is that group is a mix of dark triad plus those who realise that they have to say “acceptable” if they want to continue funding these practices while being philosophically consistent.
Of course, that latter group don’t really think the practices are “acceptable” at all.
Is there any other industry whose standard practices are so universally despised by its own customers, shareholders, regulators and employees?
