In a future state of the world where 25 cents of every 1$ produced by Canada goes to investing in defence there would be systemic affects on the ENTIRE budget... most public policy experts working on Canada neglect that fact.
I've spent a good part of the last few years being frustrated at what appears to be general apathy about training defense economists in Canada.
Few scholars work with military spending data... a 5% club target, based on Canada's 2024 GDP and tabled 2025-2026 budget... yeilds 27% on 'defence.'
The other site randomly requesting me to re-log in and my apathy about doing so - has triggered my slow ghosting.
The interesting part is trying to deny the FOMO while embracing a reduced level of feeling engaged publicly.

The resurgence giving 'invitations' to start accession talks to both EU/NATO as part of a nego settlement only confuses politicians and publics. Their usefulenss for 'deterrence' signaling is also questionable.
Univ Laval is hiring at the junior prof level in municipal and local politics. This fall we became the dept with the largest doctoral program in the faculty. Québec City is the provincial capital and home to the largest civil service in Canada :)

Carignan is right: at every juncture, when democratic armed forces included some previously excluded group (African-Americans, women, LGBTQ+, etc), those opposed always cited how this would upset unit cohesion and create distractions. The actual distraction? Those resisting inclusion. 1/2
