I’ve been trying to expand my bluesky sumo circle. Which people should I absolutely be following to get my feed filled up with sumo?

After day 5 Takanosho is the sole leader. He’s had 3 Jun yushos including a playoff loss to Terunofuji. Gotta say he’s a legit chance to pull an upset.

Nobody say it, don’t you dare

Unfortunately for Fujinokawa there are only 2 Yokozuna right now.

12.03.2026 10:13 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

He’s got tons of time though. if it took him 3 years at Ozeki that would feel long but then what, he’s a 24 year old yokozuna still younger than Onosato is today.

12.03.2026 10:05 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

If you remember Asanoyama’s Ozeki time I think his was even worse in that way. And I think it was that pressure that led to his actions that he was suspended for.

12.03.2026 10:03 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

and he’s only 21. I’m still saying he’s a chance to be Yokozuna himself despite being a little guy. 177cm 121kg he could still put a lot of muscle on his frame and consistently beat these top guys.

This is the trouble with becoming Yokozuna during a period of such change. You get there before you’re truly ready, then are expected to compete with a consistency you haven’t achieved yet. Onosato is good enough to be Yokozuna but he’s only only 2 years into his Makuuchi career. Both are true.

If he stays injury free youd think he’s the sort of guy who will peak in his 30s. Today he showed how’s he’s improved his defense against the big thrusting types which was often a weakness.

You’d be surprised. His bouts often get long, hectic and unusual. He’s not the bout you’d show a young sumo disciple learning the craft but he’s exciting in his own way. This bout has a mix of power sumo, cat and mouse movement and a belt throw at the end. I loved it.

So glad Fujiseiun is doing well. He’s been such a highlight as a sekitori and deserves a good run in makuuchi

Some great matches so far. And some big names going down already

Kotozakura has a bit more girth to do the immovable object style of sumo. Kirishima needs to be more active.

In Juryo all 5 3-0 rikishi are 25 or younger. All 4 0-3 rikishi are 30 or older. The trend of the youth rising is not stopping.

Maybe Onosato has a few more points in the bank since he’s won the yusho in over a third of his Makuuchi bashos

Wakatakakage got his first actual kinboshi but he only once beat a Yokozuna before this. He beat Terunofuji once as Yokozuna while he was Komusubi.

His Record vs Yokozuna
Vs Hakuho 0-1
Vs Terunofuji 1-5
Vs Hoshoryu 0-5
Vs Onosato 1-4

Pretty dismal for a guy hyped as much as he was

Could also just be underdone from the rehab, might need a basho or two to be back to full power even if he’s fully healed.

4 more wins would probably do it

Sumo moves so fast. 6 months ago Onosato was unbeatable. Now Aonishiki is on the precipice of Yokozuna. Wouldn’t be surprised if someone else was making a splash at it by the end of the year too. Fujiryoga debuting. Another prospect.

Yeah. I think youre referring to the boiling soup incident which is pretty horrendous

I’d need a lot more than 300 characters to go through all his scandals.

04.03.2026 21:09 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

With controversy once again overshadowing the real sport we must remember there’s a Yokozuna run live. Aonishiki just needs to win the yusho for a serious shot at being yokozuna. Kirishima also needs just 11 wins to reclaim Ozeki. Let’s get focussed on the sumo! Can they do it?

03.03.2026 14:24 πŸ‘ 19 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Terunofuji needs to be punished but Asahifuji has to be banished from the sport. This is his second Yokozuna protege to attack someone with a bottle. His legacy is already tainted beyond repair but you can’t let him quietly retire. He needs a public denouncement. Hakkaku should resign too.

Lucky they drove Hakuho out of sumo so that the Miyagino wrestlers wouldn’t be subjected to violence. 😀
