AI update: replication crisis β€” Jessica Kant Regardless of who actually prints a story, it is the merger of social media and machine learning which increasingly drives narratives in the immediate wake of a major event. The next time a catastroph...

Reposting this because, hilariously, someone running an AI news aggregator just plagiarized the hell out of it and got shared 3x as much as the original post. So you know, here's the actual piece. Where I talk about LLMs making copies of copies of copies of copies and how that drives disinformation.

The Trump administration has just deleted this photo of Trump Cabinet Secretary Howard Lutnick with Jeffrey Epstein on what appears to be an island.

Justice in Australia is only available to rich white men. They even get a slap on the wrist’s for murdering their partners, no chance of proper justice for killing and Aboriginal woman.

yeah, there's a really transparent body of evidence around, say, wes lexner, and a few others, and we need media and leadership to focus up on stuff that feels really clear and actionable.

I really think we should be bringing the isis brides home. clearly, not doing so has no great prophylaxis, and they have citizenship, that has to mean something.

Heads up folks: @thetnholler.bsky.social posted an AI-generated video this morning that was a deepfake of the captain of the U.S. women’s hockey team, and they seem to be promoting it as if it’s a real video. So watch out for that and don’t spread fakes.

Hoping folks have clear skies, and also my periodic reminder that "blood moon" is not an old or cute witchy term, it was created by the sorts of Christians who have a whole "antisemitism" section of their wikipedia page, in the 1990s. Lets all do our part in killing it.

economics is like "what if we invented a science to confirm our biases about capitalism then made it the national religion"

we should force economists to wear weird ceremonial outfits in public, wizards robes printed with the logos for Exxon & IBM or something

upon doing even the tiniest reading i will answer my own question: no, that wouldn't be possible. cheri is working on the level of the instruction set, bios doesn't load an instruction set, it just loads drivers for devices like serial ports etc. dang

just fyi your linktree doesn't have this account on it.

Cheri sounds really interesting. would there be a way to get some sort of 'cheri-lite' or what have you, using just a bios update?

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

A discreet intellectual network has been reshaping the world for 70 years. Here's how A constant battle of ideas reshapes the world we live in, and few groups have been more successful in winning the war than the little-known Atlas Network.

@georgemonbiot.bsky.social Did you see this? Australia’s besieged ABC did an extensive explanation of the Atlas Network project thanks to the outstanding business journalist @garethhutchens.bsky.social

One thing among many that always bugged me about this is saying "RCP 8.5 is implausible" is a comment about human society and the probabilities around human decision making with regards to greenhouse gas release.

This is not the core area of expertise for physical climate scientists........
