Finding your voice as a writer is one of the hardest "easy" things you'll ever have to do. If you're having trouble, you'll find it in the spaces between all the times you are TRYING to have a voice. Your voice is really just the you that spills out on the page when you're not thinking about it.
Matt Singer has been, and continues to be, one of the most interesting, well rounded, entertaining-as-fuck voices in cinema review (and king of the food dare eating quadrant of film criticism). Pre-order his latest book and see why so many of us have been reading him for the last two decades.
January 24, 2026 at 18:42 Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti "We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the 'hero' term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump's murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.
For those who havenβt seen it yet, a heartbreaking statement from the victimβs parents.
A cartoon from the mid-1960s. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. talks with a reporter, surrounded by the aftermath and detritus of a riot saying "I plan to have another non-violent march tomorrow."
This is what they said about him then. This is what they say about us now. This is who they always have been.
"Starting in February, Alamo Drafthouse locations will utilize a digital system that will let the guests browse the menu, order prior to and *during the film*, and pay directly from their phones."
God, how do you fuck up such a good thing so quickly?
And the Alamo Drafthouse just shot itself in the dick.
Alamo Drafthouse announcing they will now only take orders over QR codes, doing away with pen and paper. This is a movie theater where people should not be on phones.
Alamo used to be the best cinema there was, amazing atmosphere, indie movies, classics, live events, etc.
But holy shit its just so dead since they died and got bought by corporate and everything. What a disaster.
Used to respect films. Now everybody will be on phones. Why even go?!
Alamo Drafthouse looks at eliminating the reason to go there
Welp, that's a wrap on Alamo Drafthouse.
Alamo Drafthouse is innovating new ways to ruin the theatrical experience*
When I become emperor, I am going to ban billionaires, redistribute wealth, outlaw In-N-Out drive throughs and shut down every single Alamo Drafthouse.
Must be a coincidence that they keep ripping off Nazi phrases
@crobertcargill.bsky.social What are your thoughts on @alamodrafthouse.bsky.social changing phone policy to allow people to use their phones during the whole movie to order food/drink instead of using sheets of paper? Seems counteractive to a good cinema experience and good customer service.
Done! π€
Everyone should be submitting this to Apple and Google.

If I controlled an animation studio- any animation studio- I would jump both feet forth. Alas- for good or bd- I do not.
It was never about FREE SPEECH. It was always about the protection of HATE SPEECH.
Amen.
If you choose to be a writer, you will fail. And that's okay. It's the sticking around despite those failures that will define your "career" - whether it be amateur or professional.
My favorite Robert Redford acting trick is that he would clip off the end of a line the audience already knew the end of, pause as if thinking, then start the next line as if he was interrupting himself. It's why his acting feels so naturalistic. He feels improvised while not shitting on the script.
Absolutely untrue. Utter nonsense.
Ever think how insane it was that the Bond franchise named a henchman with steel teeth βJawsβ two years after JAWS came out? Thatβd be like calling Dave Bautistaβs SPECTRE character βMr. Babadook.β
Nothing like watching LETHAL WEAPON for the first time in 20 (??) years and realizing Danny "I'm Too Old For This Shit" Glover's character is five years younger in this film than I am right now.
*sigh*
Dave Franco and Alison Brie are great--and brave--in TOGETHER. Horror movies work when you care about the people. This one works.
βMoore, by this stage, was showing his years. But there is something grand about it too. Here is Bond not as a youthful hero, but as a kind of ceremonial figure - like a Rolls Royce being used to deliver pizza. It doesnβt quite make sense, but itβs wonderful to behold.β
I love this piece.
Randy the flight attendant biting her hand in dread as she checks on the Hammen family on Flight 209.
Not enough gets said about Lorna Patterson's portrayal of Randy in Airplane
Quentin Tarantino & Michael Madsen on the set of KILL BILL VOL.2
For this very special episode, Quentin Tarantino returns to the show to talk about his 10 favorite Michael Madsen performances (not from his own films)! A lovely tribute to a great actor!
