Kristi Noem, while governor of South Dakota, supplemented her roughly $130,000 salary by secretly accepting $80,000 donated to a political nonprofit she was affiliated with, records show.

She never disclosed this income on federal ethics forms.

A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.

NEW: Clemency for Tina Peters would be unprecedented, based on my analysis of Gov Polis' 25 commutations. Peters hasn't shown remorse, taken accountability, or sought to restore harm. No Polis commutation was for a harsh sentence alone and Peters' would be the shortest by 30+ yrs

I love the obvious behind-the-scenes discourse of PR folks for fast food chains telling their CEOs β€œOkay, all you have to do is take a bite out of our burgers and not visibly grimace”

Just to be clear, companies like Microsoft and Amazon are actively fighting regulations meant to do precisely this.

The Massachusetts Department of Correction has been fighting me for months, trying to withhold data about its collaboration with ICE.

Yesterday, I won that fight, and obtained records showing that the state has transferred more than 2,000 people into ICE custody since 2009.

A quick thread:

Get your umbrella handy, find those wool mittens, and look for your skis.....an extended period of cool, wet weather is ahead.

Let's start with the predicted precipitation (below). The western U.S. is going to be very wet.

The predicted totals through next Tuesday afternoon are impressive, particularly over California. But Washington and Oregon get their share.

Expect several feet of fresh snow in the Cascades and a radical improvement in the snowpack, with the reservoirs remaining in excellent shape.

What will the media, such as the Seattle Times Climate Lab, have to say about this reversal of the meteorological situation?

Really important context re: Jared Polis hinting at clemency for Tina Peters.

If Polis is interested in people who were over-sentenced and/or are unjustly incarcerated, well, he’s had eight years to act on that. And he has lots of prime, non-Peters opportunities waiting now right in front of him:

For context, a series of atmospheric rivers hammered Washington in December, the devastating floods that followed caused an estimated $180m in damage to public infrastructure alone, prompting state and federally declared emergencies.

Big Tech took down new data center regulations, WA lawmaker says But tech lobbyists for companies like Microsoft and Amazon, and their allies, rallied against the proposal.

We are At War now, according to President Bush, and I take him at his word. He also says this War might last for "a very long time."
Generals and military scholars will tell you that eight or 10 years is actually not such a long time in the span of human history - which is no doubt true - but history also tells us that 10 years of martial law and a wartime economy are going to feel like a Lifetime to people who are in their twenties today. The poor bastards of what will forever be known as Generation Z are doomed to be the first generation of Americans who will grow up with a lower standard of living than their parents enjoyed.
That is extremely heavy news, and it will take a while for it to sink in. The 22 babies born in New York City while the World Trade Center burned will never know what they missed. The last half of the 20th century will seem like a wild party for rich kids, compared to what's coming now. The party's over, folks.

Tech companies gain ground in fight against WA data center regulations The sweeping data center package in Olympia remains in play. But Big Tech lobbyists and allies knocked out many of the measure’s teeth along the way.

Publicly, big tech companies like Microsoft and Amazon aggressively cultivate images as good neighbors and environmental stewards. Privately they fight β€” hard β€” against any new regulations on their booming data center industry

Little snow in California and the West as a warm winter nears end California's snowpack remains much smaller than average after months of extremely warm conditions across the West.

Very little snow across the West during a winter that has brought record warmth
