When my cat is acting randomly and doing stupid things, I don't assume he's really aware nor conscious during these periods (and I doubt he is). Why should we assume steel and silicon machines are when they're doing the same? #PhilSky #AIEthics

I would have liked to register for this course. What about following topics:
- Bias (this is a biased opinion of course)
- Knowledge and Human Interests (Habermas)
- Confounders and over-controlling (sea Pearl's Book of Why).
Am I the only one wondering why the hell would you use #LLMs for millitary purpose? I know the US said they used Claude and just signed an agreement with OpenAI, but the models still hallucinate so much we need to check everything. In war, you need accuracy and chain of command. #AIEthics #Iran
Just discovered this fascinating piece on consciousness, life and our bodies. A text every student interested in philosophy of mind should read.
"The really important question is: was your body ‘dumb’ before you had a brain? If so, how did you manage to survive without neurons?"

Excellent article on AI consumption. Datacenters (for AI or not) produce nowadays more CO2 equivalent than France. #AIEthics #Energy
Interesting paper! I agree on the premise that the experience of time cannot be divided in snapshots, contrary to physics. I agree on the conclusion that consciousness is not physical. But not on the argument that the conclusion should follow from the premise. #PhilSky iai.tv/articles/con...
PARAFE machines at CDG Airport near Paris.
Border control at CDG Airport.
Landing at CDG airport.
Just to try at Paris Airport CDG, I asked not to use PARAFE, the facial recognition system for border control. Indeed, it was possible to have my passport checked by a human, but it took a more than 10 min. while it is roughly 1 min. with the machines, and I was in the priority line. #AIEthics
I really enjoyed reading your text. But why being afraid of "becoming just another form of humanities scholarship"? 1) Humanities, especially interpretation, also take methods seriously ; 2) Maybe you got to lose grip with methods sometimes and just postulate meaning to give a fair explanation.
This year's most important information...
Very interesting topic! Will it be broadcasted online?
It feels like the author just says that emergence is a lazy way to see a whole object that is not independent from its parts, but I don't get how he refutes emergence. There is still no explanation to find in every part that could explain how it forms a bigger thing.
Thank you, that confirms what I thought!
I've been looking for the reference for this quote:
"Whoever controls the people's fears becomes master of their souls",
presumably by Niccolo Machiavelli, but I could not find any sentence looking like that in his work. Does anyone know the reference? #PhilSky

Hello #Philsky, I'm looking for a university level class on the Phenomenology of Spirit in Paris area this year. Have you heard of any class of this kind ? #Hegel

Most of the cathedral dates however from the #MiddleAges. You can admire inside incredible rose windows and frescoes that Pascal most certainly saw. 2/3
Café Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand where the philosopher's birthplace was (approximately).
Pascal's birthplace according to the coordinates on Wikipedia (lampost).
Rose window (south) in Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Clermont-Ferrand.
Sacristy's door and fresco in Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Clermont-Ferrand.
This is the exact place in Clermont-Ferrand (France) where philosopher Blaise Pascal was born in 1623. The only indication I found is a pub called Café Pascal. Geographically speaking, the house was actually where the lampost is. 1/3

Excellent paper by @bernardokastrup.bsky.social, I really enjoyed reading it, but I still have a few questions. Why "analytic" idealism (and not just "idealism")? What are "transpersonal, non-perceptual experiential states" (how can they be non-perceptual and experiential at the same time)?
Hey #PhilSky, what is the #1 reference in philosophy of technology you think about when you hear "Panoptic" (besides Foucault)?
I completely forgot to tell you that I'll be in Geneva 🇨🇭 tonight to talk about generative AI and writing with Dora Formica, Pascal Nordmann, and Patrick Morier-Genoud. Feel free to come say hi ! #GenAI #Books #Editing #Comics

#PhilSky #Paris5
Just as a reminder, if you're wondering whether it was a nazi salute, here are some of them from 2016 shouting "Hail Trump !". So you'd rather be careful whenever you raise your right arm as a #Trump supporter, whatever the intent. #Musk youtu.be/1o6-bi3jlxk?...
