Caretaker President of Syria met with a delegation of survivors’ associations, families of detainees and missing persons a few days ago in Damascus - it’s progress but clear actions and investment in this file are still needed. On that, progress is still horribly slow.

Omari, was documenting the missing, when arrested in in his office in Damascus. He's one of a few torture survivors who publicly relay his experiences. "The rule is you never come out. I was one of the exceptions":

For god's sake reach to Saydnaya slaughterhouse prison & rescue the rest!! Upon release list their names, secure the prison for evidnce. Governments & int. organizations, must immediately offer support to released detainees & support efforts to reunite them with families

3. Following the release of those detainees, crucial complementary work should follow to safeguard their dignity, address their needs (physical & psychological), & facilitate swift reunion with families. A dedicated workgroup should be formed to coordinate these efforts

2 Freeing those detainees ended Assad’s war crimes & crimes against humanity of torture & enforced disappearances, against them. This is also a stark reminder of other detainees languishing in the Assad torture archipelago and of the tens of thousands killed by Assad in detention

1. Today, thousands of people arbitrarily detained are freed from Assad's Hama prison. This prison served as a holding facility for detainees before being transferred to Saydnaya prison, where they were executed, slaughtered, & killed under torture.

Syria's president Assad's appearance in Saudia's summit is only a reminder to his countless victims & thier families that we should never forget. We shall never cease resisting normalising the horrific interanational crimes of torture, enforced disappearance & bombing civilians with chemical weapons
