I’m not sure about two from the draft being Top 100. Their second pick isn’t until 55. Possible they can float a pretty nice pick there but it’s not going to be somebody who jumps onto anybody’s top 100
New pod! @jimcallis.bsky.social joins me to talk Spring Breakout games, young players in Giants' camp, and a little early draft talk as well! open.substack.com/pub/rogermun...
Having a grandfather who's in the bluegrass HOF and an uncle who's a Grammy winning country guitarist probably helps. But really, NOVA is plenty country music inclined.
Somebody needs to ask Bryce Eldridge if he and Ilia Malinin crossed paths growing up in Vienna, VA.
Congrats to Hector Borg and Shane Robinson for getting their first MLB staff coaching jobs. Borg has been a mainstay for the orgs PD system for years now, particularly helping you international players. Robinson was OF coordinator for farm last yr, obv an area of focus for MLB team in ‘26
Giants lefty Luis de la Torre joins me to talk about his brilliant breakout season in 2025, and his big plans to follow that up in the coming year. Could DLT be pushing for a 40-man spot in a year? Let's talk! open.substack.com/pub/rogermun...
Very excited for a lot of guys who have worked hard to get to point of big league camp invites. I know both Bednar and Harris told me they were really hoping! And kids like Sanchez, Bericoto have had a very long road to get here. Congrats to all!
The cognitive dissonance between Sutter Health Park's park factor reputation as a minor league park and it's park factor reputation as major league park, is one of the few truly delightful consequences of the A's move.
Giants Senior Director of Amateur Scouting joined me on the latest TRG pod to talk about the process for honing in on #4 pick in the draft this summer open.substack.com/pub/rogermun...
Giants have traded 18-yo catcher Carlos Martinez to Marlins for additional IFA bonus money. This should enable them to sign more players connected to them in this cycle (eg Israel Alfonse, Johan Rengifo, or Jose Valdez).
Martinez showed promise as receiver in debut

And second, a conversation with Giants' beat writer Maria Guardado of MLB dot com on the Giants situation as they approach these meetings. open.substack.com/pub/rogermun...
To help celebrate the opening of Winter Meetings, I have a couple of Free For All items today at There R Giants. First, a new mailbag... open.substack.com/pub/rogermun...
Yeah, Mets are obviously more motivated than Cardinals, though I'm not sure how wide that gulf is likely to be. I think Sanchez might be the harder one to get of the group
I actually like Donovan more as a target anyway. They don’t need to turn yet another defensive position into a toxic waste dump with adding McNeil certainly does
That feels optimistic to me given the conversations I’ve had with players who have gone through it
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about McNeil but doesn’t his TOS put him out of action for a significant spell of ‘26?
Thanks! Yeah it’s a daily thing for my work most of the time!
Today is first day I noticed. Can’t say when last time I used it was but certainly within last month. Definitely since season ended
No it’s been on minor league pages for years. I used it almost every day in doing my work.
I'm mostly using minor league pages and spot checked three of them. Just looking around a bit more, the MLB player pages appear to be working for me but not the MiLB.
Hey Adam, I'm noticing today that when I look at Player Game Logs, when I use Command-Click to select a specific set of games, I'm not getting the split summary box popping up. That's by far my favorite function. It's not going away is it?
Monday/wednesday?
It also sounds like Gonzalez may have grown some in the past year, which will be an important part of Hernandez's path as well. If his game is going to be based around power, you'd like to see a couple more inches on the height
Absolutely. (I also think that a lot of fans really do underrate the importance of the RHH vs LHH/SHH distinction. Not having to deal with same side RH sliders is a huge advantage for a young player
