People are asking how Trump won. There’s a plethora of reasons but one stands out in my mind: conditioned binary thinking. His followers are either/or, Dem/Rep, for/against, us/them. This is why education is being demonized. Peeling back the layers of accountability would lead back to themselves.

I agree with that. I do believe we are seeing a new phenomenon. Political identities were not determinants at state and local levels prior to Trump. Democrats need to focus now on those elections. Basically, work from the ground up.
