speech act question: do fallback promises raise any interesting issues that anyone has/hasn't written about?
like "If I don't have this ready for you by Friday, I'll buy you dinner?" [which seems a bit crass]
many accounts of promises seem to focus more on "If *you* do X I'll do Y" cases
Nothing specific comes to mind re: speech acts, but it feels like an interesting variation on tying Odysseus to the mast!
