A Euler diagram with three main sections: 1. Incel, 2. Excel, and 3. "Me eating a fig"

speech act question: do fallback promises raise any interesting issues that anyone has/hasn't written about?

like "If I don't have this ready for you by Friday, I'll buy you dinner?" [which seems a bit crass]

many accounts of promises seem to focus more on "If *you* do X I'll do Y" cases

Nothing specific comes to mind re: speech acts, but it feels like an interesting variation on tying Odysseus to the mast!

Journals This is our best attempt at a comprehensive guide for journals that publish in philosophy of social science. If we have either misrepresented or omitted a journal and you are on the editorial board…

Kareem Khalifa is assembling a list of journals that either specialise or regularly publish work in philosophy of social science. A great service but I need this list to be longer! Please add to it #philsci #philsky

The correct attitude that one should take toward AI is as a left technocrat. Be relentlessly empirical about the powers and pitfalls of the technology, but do not forget the contingent material circumstances that shape its deployments.

Incidentally, I am a left technocrat.

The first is from back in 2023, when I went to Idaho to investigate Christian nationalism in the region and, among other things, met w/Wilson for a long interview about his views. religionnews.com/2023/02/22/h...
