Both Elves and Dwarves had great profit from this association ... It may be that Galadriel chose [the location] because she ... looked upon the Dwarves ... with the eye of a commander, seeing in them the finest warriors to pit against the Orcs.
[Unfinished Tales]
[At the time that they established Eregion] Galadriel and Celeborn had in their company a Noldorin craftsman named Celebrimbor β¦ [who] had βan almost βdwarvishβ obsession with craftsβ ... he soon became the chief artificer of Eregion, entering into a close relationship with the Dwarves of KhazaddΓ»m.
"Hurry. The old Dwarven tunnel. I used it to enter the city undetected. It will bear you and the rings far from here..."
The Elves [of Eregion] received [Sauron] gladly, and few among them hearkened to the messengers from Lindon bidding them beware; for Sauron took to himself the name of Annatar, the Lord of Gifts...
[Unfinished Tales]
The mariners thought it an ill thing that the Captain should depart thus ... when all was made ready and men prepared to weigh anchor Erendis came there, little though she loved the noise and bustle of the great harbour and the crying of the gulls.
[Unfinished Tales]
"Father!"
"I'm alright, Isil."
"A single arrow from you may yet turn the tide."
"No, RΓan! Our enemy will not breach that wall!"
It is very easy to interpret their bonds with Sauron being not entirely platonic, given the wording here, and the depths to which they deluded themselves for him. Not to mention the Adar & Galadriel dialogue scene.
NamariΓ«.
For in its presence, all darkness must flee.
Armies may rise, hearts may fail, yet still... light endures, and is mightier than strength.
But perhaps, the Elves need only remember that it is not strength that overcomes darkness...
But light...
Neither of us was strong enough.
There might not be anyone in Middle-earth who is...
"From the beginning, a part of me knew. A part of me saw.
But I wanted what he offered.
So I... I blinded myself to what he was."
"... So did I."
- Deor's Lament
Weland endured the agony of exile:
an indomitable smith wracked by grief
He suffered countless sorrows;
indeed, such sorrows were his bosom companions
in that frozen island dungeon
where Nithad fettered him:
so many strong-but-supple sinew-bands
binding the better man
That passed away; this also may
And the angel said unto them, be not afraid: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
- Luke 2:10
[Sauron] did not object to the existence of the world, so long as he could do what he liked with it ... Morgoth had no βplanβ: unless destruction and reduction to nil of a world in which he had only a share can be called a βplanβ ... Sauron had never reached this stage of nihilistic madness. 1/3
"Crimson, for NΓΊmenorβs future, or white, her past?
... Iβm partial to the red. Like the sun... rises a new monarch!
It will show the people youβre a new kind of ruler for a new day. They need change."
"The white. It is humbler."
