Point of order, these aren't new concepts. I made a joke of it but in episode 1. Bulma directs Goku to go out, see the world, always train to get stronger, and crucially, the whole reason Roshi becomes Jackie Chun in the 21st is to make sure Goku and Krillin learn that "there's always a bigger fish"

(the outside of Kami's temple, what is colloquially known as The Lookout, a giant floating platform somewhere vaguely high up in the stratosphere or mesosphere) since Popo won't let him inside and keeps telling him to politely leave.
THIS quiet moment is Goku. Both Good and Bad. He runs into a wall. He cant think a way around it, and he won't try to go thru. If he's not strong enough to climb, yet, he'll do squats. The humble acceptance is key. He's not stubbornly argumentative, but he ignores the "no Goku" entirely all the same
