She also developed an analysis pipeline that will be useful for others interested in exploring public amplicon datasets (18S, 16S, eDNA) to understand the diversity and distribution of their target group of interest! We hope others will use it.

So happy this is finally out! We reconstructed the 1st large-scale spatiotemporal dataset of 600+ MAGs from San Francisco Bay and show they have functional redundancy in key N and S pathways. These functions may better recover from disturbance in this highly urban estuary 💧

It’s #MeiofaunaMonday! “Meiofauna” are microbial eukaryotes with a body size <1 mm (these animals and protists are as small as specks of dust you might see on a glass coffee table). Almost all of the 38 major animal groups have at least some small-bodied meiofauna species.

So happy to announce our new preprint, “A geothermal amoeba sets a new upper temperature limit for eukaryotes.” We cultured a novel amoeba from Lassen Volcanic NP (CA, USA) that divides at 63°C (145°F) 🔥 - a new record for euk growth!

Question for #protistsonsky #SymbioSky: what are examples of prokaryotic genera which form mutualistic symbioses with both animals and free-living protists? i know about methanogenic endosymbionts of protists/animals, and examples of pathogenic microbes e.g. with amoeba, looking for more examples!
