My Dad was an excellent church organist, and I attend recitals at Durham Cathedral, but I remember a head of Radio 3 saying his audience was divided into a set of communities (orchestral, choral, jazz..) and based on the letters he received the 1 thing that united them was a dislike of organ music!
Really enjoyed the Turner exhibition at Newcastle's Laing Art Gallery (ends Sept 7th). They do a really good job of explaining the context behind his most famous painting, including the links to shipbuilding on the Tyne. laingartgallery.org.uk/whats-on/tur...
