@jacobmarks
I make rpgs, programs, 3d art, and other weird things... My largest projects are the Vaarn Atlas, Exalted Order Of The Mystic Moose, and Penumbral Oasis. Find those, and my other games at: https://siofragames.itch.io/ Blog at: https://jacobmarkshasablog

The player ship is now in the world and moving around! #7drl #gamedev #roguelike
Me too π
I still have no idea what it's going to feel like since everything up to this point has been building scaffolding and data structures for the rest of the week.
Lots of text on screen. A roguelike screenshot. Describes a ghostly pirate crew with various abilities, a ghostly pirate ship with different stats, and a ghost pirate captain.
Today I've got almost all the ship, crew, and captain generation finished. No ship names in there yet, and there are a bunch of other details. But almost there.
Find and replace prev with perv. Fixed.
Roguelike screenshot showing low res simple ascii. Each line is colored in different ways. A header says Choose Your Captain. The lines of text below say Human, Skeleton, Ghost, Crab, Octopus, Monkey, Crocodile, Parrot, and Fish.
CHOOSE YOUR CAPTAIN!
Thanks!
Ascii roguelike screenshot. Shows a map screen overlaid on the main game view. The map is mostly brown and very abstract. A title says Treasure Maps, and a subtitle says The Known World.
Working on multiple screen layers for popups, and a treasure maps popup for my #7drl. The overall world map here is a little odd, but I think it'll work. The idea for treasure maps is that you'll have to sail until you find an island that matches one of your maps and then travel to where the X is.
Now animated!
Ascii screenshot from a roguelike game. Shows abstract desert islands.
Progress on ascii rendering.
Bright colored pixel map showing an archipelago of various types of islands.
More #7drl map generation progress. Different colors show sand and vegetation. There are atolls, mountains, rivers, lava, ruins, palm trees, and coral.
in case anyone needs art for #7drl, my ongoing fantasy art pack, phosphor, is free to use. please let me know if you would like anything added! i can patch it in in the coming days.

Image showing different colors making up scattered islands and chains in a simple map.
Progress on map generation. There are different sorts of island chains. Each color will be either a different civilization or a different type of island.
Thanks!
Black and white 100x100 pixel image of noisy voronoi cells.
Working on map generation. I'm going to use noisy voronoi cells for islands. Clusters will be combined in various different ways to form an archipelago. Some islands will be large clusters, others thin strips.
Going to make this a thread for my #7drl progress. Game is pirate themed. Going to be all ascii and moderately traditional, but taking a lot of inspiration from FTL and Sid Meier's Pirates. Going to go weird and fantasy with it though, with ghost, monkey, shark, and crab crews.

Shot from the 1950s Treasure Island of Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins. A palette of several colors is overlaid on the frame.
Started working on my pirate themed #7drl project. First thing I'm doing is pulling colors from various Treasure Island frames to make a palette.
My campaign to replace the D&D cleric with the Earthsea-style wizard and the Tolkien-esque elf continues apace
I couldn't tell if this was real or not...
Finished the marker work on this and pretty pleased!
Hey thanks for playing! This one was a ton of fun to work on. I think I'm going to participate in the jam again this year.
I'm getting hyped for the #7drl in a few days! I think I'm going to try to make a pirate themed game. Something about finding captain Yendor's buried treasure.
I mostly finished my submission to the Catch ideas LIKE FISH. David Lynch Game jam. Pretty happy with it, even though I couldn't finish it. I just lost motivation and wasn't feeling like it by the end.

Yeah don't do it if it's anxiety inducing π
There's a nice dungeon crawler discord community associated with the jam though.
Looks nice! You could check out the Dungeon Crawler jam and use what you have as a base. itch.io/jam/dcjam2026
An art teacher I had suggested collecting sports magazines for dynamic poses. I never would have thought of that, but it's certainly better than google.
a stylized 3d render of a wizard holding a staff with a light on the end. a large moth sits upon it.

My book THE SORCERER'S CORPSE is coming out on the Ides of March
PREORDER PREORDER PREORDER (link below)
(it's set in the same world as Dungeons of Blood and Dream)

So cool. Can you do anything with the cork, or is it just a decoration?
Of course in my experience combat isn't like that because players have abilities, I don't play npcs as unerringly bloodthirsty, and players come up with smart tactics or flee.
