A single screen from the 2022 game Immortality. Rows of thumbnails represent videos for the player to examine from the production of a fictional 1960s erotic thriller feature called Ambrosio. One highlighted clip features its in-universe lead actor, Marissa Marcel, holding a clapper board next to her director, Arthur Fischer.
March's club game is Immortality, from 2022. Nice to not only think laterally with the "adventure" genre label, but to facilitate a group discussion on a story *about* stories themselves. Something this ambitious and sincere deserves that kind of day in the sun.
A my9games.com list of my nine formative games. From left to right, Picross E, Kingdom Hearts, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Crash Bandicoot 2 '97, Grand Theft Auto Vice City '02, Resident Evil 4 '05, EarthBound, Super Mario Land 2, and Demon's Souls '09.
Would you believe I'm on RE3 now, marveling at RE Engine flexes, mastefully unlocking, etc. This is a good series
I also remember this being much harder but it really just plays with lighting to obscure where you've got to jump to next. 10/10 commentary on this clip too youtu.be/PxP_5oof5TM?...
I always liked how Ratchet & Clank (1st game + its remake) did a "training" course that was really a challenge gauntlet moulded into a tower/corkscrew youtu.be/N24QcMjczZ4?...
Starting Claire B run now and wow, I didn't know how good I had it
It took me forever to realise that's what the glowing four-sided border on each skill was
It feels like the movie scenes AI bros generate are almost always just βwhat if this IP meets this other IP.β No new concepts or stories. No new world to discover. It almost feels like the β00s when companies released games with level designers and everyone just recreated Super Mario Bros. level 1-1
Resident Evil 2 (2019) antagonist Mr X, pulling aside a crashed helicopter and staring the player down.
Actually I'm kind of getting the hang of this. Just got to stay smart with ammo, keep my eyes peeled and
Oh hell
Letterboxd screenshot Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) Watched by Branson Reese 28 Apr 2022 Abrams isn't a man so much as he's an avatar of cultural entropy. If you make something popular enough eventually you will die or sell it off and and a person in thick rimmed glasses whose main artistic vision is that he loves to have meetings will take it and sandblast it until it's nothing. I hate to see this happen here but maybe it's good that this happened. Maybe every franchise should collapse into a version of itself that makes shareholders nod and shake each others' hands. We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.
i often think about this review
A full body illustration of Dr Cossack, who sports unkempt hair, a stern expression, a windswept tie, a powerful pose, and a pair of glasses with one opaque lens.
Mega Man 4's antagonist Dr Cossack obviously has a dumb name but god, what a vibe
Fired up RE2 remake for the first time. Holy piss am I jangled. Straight up mewing and dreading what else will slash me. Leon mate, I dunno if we're making it outta this one.
The subject of the Babe speedrunning article I wrote has lovely new music out as part of their great band Dr Spaceman. Please enjoy.
Oh and do you know Zelder. As in Legend of
I can't believe the FMV point-and-click extravanganza Toonstruck isn't lighting your fire (jk valid)
Invisible Inc is one I revisit every few years. Good turn-based roguelikey stuff
A screenshot from the 1996 PC adventure game Toonstruck. In a cartoon-illustrated countryside vista with a corn field and barn house, the live-action character Drew Blanc (portrayed by Christopher Lloyd) and the cartoon character Flux Wildly conversate with a talking scarecrow. A dialogue caption above the scarecrow reads, "Nice to see you boys again."
February's club game is Toonstruck, which I've played before and enjoyed. Retreading it with a walkthrough makes me admire the skill it takes to anticipate how much a player will wander before progressing. I also admire Christopher Lloyd doing the best he can with a green screen and VO booth.
If you've never heard the soundtrack for this 2001 PS1 game starring Ralph Wolf, ya gotta. aftermath.site/sheep-dog-wolf...

Do you have a good download link for Windows Movie Maker? Or how do you make stuff that looks like that

Big shouts-out to @rcmacleod.bsky.social for such a bang-up edit job. It's been a long while since I last got in the writing saddle, and this go-around with @aftermath.site was a breeze. Pitch em!
A speedrun of the Babe video game

My first ever bit of games writing is live on @aftermath.site. It's a winsome tale about my funny friend @xavierrn.bsky.social and their quest for the speedrun world record on Babe for PS2, a game based on the movie their uncle directed. Please enjoy:

Gameplay shot from The Drifter. The main character, Mick Carter, is looking up from a business card in his hand and surveying a city building with a sign above the door reading "Herald". The street is covered in rain puddles and detritus. A vagrant sleeps under one of the building windows. A dialogue caption reads "This is the place".
I'm two chapters in on The Drifter as part of a monthly adventure game club my mates and I are putting on this year. It'll be good for variety's sake to play games that *aren't* LucasArts-y dialogue and item-heavy puzzlers, but when they come along and hit... sure feels good, man
RIP SXSW Sydney. Here's Chance the Rapper very unexcitedly announcing his arrival at the city's gamer bar
Happy birthday and good luck with cake!!
