Funny enough company that made 3d for Tron end up as beginning of software company which is responsible for one of first 3d software working on Linux.
Matt Milstead from Mograph.com did a little interview with me yesterday where we talked about Houdini, MOPs, and motion graphics in general. Full video is online here: www.youtube.com/live/MsyvhOR...
Cavalry is cool but it’s not exactly total alternative to AE. Cavalry is great for motion graphics(and a lot more procedural) but it’s even worst at compositing than AE.
Unless its stdout or stderr, computer can talk to me there.
They say exactly the same thing in 2023. Already had big doubts about it back then.
Pretty cool ffpeg added OCIO filters!

Afaik it is.
On other not switching from Labour as payment lead to serfdom in Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Muscovy which lead to most of population effectively not having any rights.
Apparently it was burning in 2019 too

Many programmers consider Vulkan to be overly complex–maybe not even worth engaging with as an #indiedev. It’s easy to see why people feel this way.
If this is how you Vulkan, or modern graphics APIs in general, the goal of this talk is to change your mind.

make me wanna try add this to Houdini 🤔 if line remove is in nodenetworkutils it might be possible
I’ve been doing pipeline on Linux for years and wonder if anyone from #gamedev would be interested in talk about advantages/cool things that make developing pipeline on Linux easier/faster/more scalable compared to Windows?
#techart #pipeline #cgi #3d #linux #windows #vfx
I don’t like it but it’s because of court ruling that established if you own book and scan it and use for training it’s “fair use”. Unfortunate consequence of common law and US copyright system.
My MOPs course on Houdini.School is now free! If you want a start to finish course on how (almost) everything works, plus the math background, you can watch it all here: www.houdini.school/courses/mops...
just an absolutely perfect example of how the success of plausibility and believability of modern digital effects is used by bozos as evidence that "CGI sucks" [the suit in the "Iron Man" (2008) shot they're referring to is computer graphics] Referring to a bozo post that has a shot from IRON MAN “causal reminder that this armor was a real prop and is incredibly convincing and it is over 14 years old*”
flashback to me pointing out the ultimate irony of visual effects getting so good that our successes are used as evidence that "CGI sucks"
About tablet it’s because of VFX most of it is done on Linux after Silicon Graphics stop being a thing. Which pushed for some good build-in drivers. This also show up with other things connected to graphics as long as it’s useful for VFX
Windows ❤️
as long you don’t ship it as part of commercial product I believe you’re safe, at least that’s how I understand from working on VFX, so generating video was fair game as what was sold to product was images and source files
Probably requires pro 😐 BM might give you quick trial to check it without paying, worth taking a shot
documents.blackmagicdesign.com/SupportNotes... - also Resolve support it for free on MacOS, partly free on Windows, paid on Linux
Not trying to say it’s good solution it’s a solution
So for conversion purposes ffmpeg is fine and for openRV/x-studio as long as you don’t distribute it should be fine as well
isn’t it ok to use as long you compile it yourself and don’t distribute?
ORI is mostly about encoding from images to video formats for VFX but you get good centralize info on libraries and their licenses too
From OpenReviewInitiative Encoding Standards seems like there are several open source libraries but you will have to use ffmpeg to convert it to different format:

Tbh push for AI features push me out from using VSCode that I used for years to search other editors. So I use awkward mix of Helix, Pycharm and Zed. Though I might settle on Zed as it have easy way to disable all AI features and works more like editor than JetBrains stuff
