You darkness, that I come from, I love you more than all the fires that fence in the world, for the fire makes a circle of light for everyone, and then no one outside learns of you.

But the darkness pulls in everything: shapes and fires, animals and myself, how easily it gathers them! powers and people-

and it is possible a great energy is moving near me.

I have faith in nights.

"I no longer take pride in my resilience because it is chronically sore like an overused muscle. I wish for change that doesn't force me to cope, and is instead, like the comfort of the deep exhale of a long withheld sigh."- words of a disabled friend. Just hit me so hard.

Sometimes I wonder if I am getting worse or better. I cannot tell the difference. The only thing that changed over these years is the acceptance of loss and learning to live with it.

I can barely find the energy to try it out and finalise the fit and even if I have found that extra few minutes I ask myself "what's the point?" The only clothes I need are some pajamas and oversized maxi dresses. Why bother? I don't think 2026 is going to be any better than the last few years.

I read somewhere that unfinished and abandoned projects describe the life of an artist more than the finished projects. In my case,I have two stunning garments-one cardigan and one vest which is just needs a couple of hours of work after the 100+ hyperfocus hours i have poured into them. #pwd #pwme

Everyone deserves housing.

Everyone deserves healthcare.

Everyone deserves food, water and clean air.

These are not things you should have to β€œearn”.

Your ability to survive should not be based on economic output.

Help people meet their basic needs & watch the world change.

What Things Want

Robert Bly 1926-2021

You have to let things Occupy their own space. This room is small, But the green settee

Likes to be here.

The big marsh reeds, Crowding out the slough, Find the world good.

You have to let things Be as they are. Who knows which of us Deserves the world more?

Chronic illness is unfair & unrelenting.

I’m facing a threat to my housing which has wrecked my baseline.

I haven’t written in weeks.

I don’t have a working washing machine so I’m covered in hives.

Today multiple things broke on me.

Then I broke. Sorry for the lack of writing. My brain is done.

I fell in love with the red in the pattern photo, but couldn't get similar red. My second toe up socks and it is a struggle to get it over my heel. But once it is done, the fit is so damn good. I should have used a bigger needle for the lace though #knitsky

A RABBIT NOTICED MY CONDITION

I was sad one day and went for a walk; I sat in a field.

A rabbit noticed my condition and came near.

It often does not take more than that to help at times-

to just be close to creatures who are so full of knowing, so full of love that they don't -chat,

they just gaze with their marvelous understanding.

IN THE MEANTIME

Tom Hirons

Meanwhile, flowers still bloom. The moon rises, and the sun. Babies smile and somewhere, Against all the odds, Two people are falling in love.

Strangers share cigarettes and jokes. Light plays on the surface of water. Grace occurs on unlikely streets And we hold each other fast Against entropy, the fires and the flood.

Life leans towards living And, while death claims all things at the end, There were such precious times between, In which everything was radiant And we loved, again, this world.

A collaged anatomical heart made from hand printed papers surrounded by collaged flowers and penned in leaves and patterns. A hand written Rumi quote β€˜Each time a thought enters your heart, treat it as an honoured guest’ is in one corner. Art materials are scattered around the piece.

Steadily coming back to myself, including creatively, after surgery last month and a recovery period which has been tougher than expected in every possible way.

Read this line of a Rumi poem and this piece buzzed around in my head incessantly until I made it.

This counts as #SciArt right?

Allow by Dana Faulds

There is no controlling life.

-Try corralling a lightning bolt, containing a tornado. Dam a stream and it will create a new channel. Resist, and the tide will sweep you off your feet. Allow, and grace will carry you to higher ground. The only safety lies in letting it all in the wild and the weak; fear, fantasies, failures and success. When loss rips off the doors of the heart, or sadness veils your vision with despair, practice becomes simply bearing the truth.

In the choice to let go of your known way of being, the whole world is revealed to your new eyes.

Remembering

When there was air, when you could breathe any day if you liked, and if you wanted to you could run, I used to climb those hills back of town and follow a gully so my eyes were at ground level and could look out through grass as the stems bent in their tensile way, and see snow mountains follow along, the way distance goes.

Now I carry those days in a tiny box wherever I go. I open the lid like this and let the light glimpse and then glance away. There is a sigh like my breath when I do this. Some days I do this again and again.

A DAY IS NOT LOST

A day is not lost if you failed to tick off a list or a diet was broken

a day is only lost if you forgot to say something kind to yourself or another

if you forgot to pause to search for a tiny spark of beauty amongst the drudgery glimmering like gold in the mud

a day is only lost if you forgot that life even in the worst of times is still a gift a gift you so very much deserve to live through

and not just survive.

Center of all centers, core of cores, almond self-enclosed and growing sweet-all this universe, to the furthest stars and beyond them, is your flesh, your fruit.

Now you feel how nothing clings to you; your vast shell reaches into endless space, and there the rich, thick fluids rise and flow. Illuminated in your infinite peace,

a billion stars go spinning through the night, blazing high above your head. But in you is the presence that will be, when all the stars are dead.

My seventh year of sharing Bibliofiles - my favourite reads from last year. The reading itch only continues to grow. :)
I read fewer books (58 vs 63 in 2024) but this year’s list has more variety, including fiction.
Short reviews and the long list is on the blog.

First Memory

Long ago, I was wounded. I lived to revenge myself against my father, not for what he was--for what I was: from the beginning of time, in childhood, I thought that pain meant I was not loved. It meant I loved.
