4th grade classroom. Students sit on rug and couch and clap as results come in from some digital math practice.
Loving 4th grade this year. These kids are rad. They support and cheer for each other's success.

H/t to @jonbecker.bsky.social for recommending deck.blue. I'm still figuring it out but it is making the sky ever bluer.

Art teachers are a gift. #StemMagnetAcademy
So you're saying it's weeks away. ๐ฅฐ
Not me having another good reason to migrate. Hey y'all. Let's do something rad together!

Picture of good on shelves with yellow signs that say "last chance" near bathrooms.
Picture of cupcake with date that is 5 days old.
Putting "last chance" items around the corner and by the bathrooms that reek of urine is ๐คฎ. Treating people in poverty in an inhumane way is too permitted.
I'm not sure if using AI is a tool I'm endorsing...(many issues with data scraping/unethical data curation/etc)... But the use of AI to organize, create a mentor piece, offer feedback is intriguing. And the task nudges us to find authentic ways that are AI proof in completion.
Book cover for PET by Akwaeke Emezi. Black girl holding a feather on a purple city view from a bird's eye perspective. Name of book, PET, is in gold feathers.
Great book. Jam, main character, wrestles with her internal compass of right and wrong in a utopian society that believes it's shut out humanity's monsters. Jam's identity as a trans girl who rarely communicates out loud and her best friend Redemption's throuple parents are ๐๐ฉท๐ค๐ฉต. #BookLove
Sending Love. Telling people I care about them is a form of resistance I never get tired of. The boost in serotonin reminds me I do better when I'm in community and actively building it. ๐
Expand My Sphere. Following social media accounts of people from communities I'm not a part of helps me see the needs, interests, and beauty of people (without the burden and awkward question asking). Especially seeking out Indigenous people today.
Freedom to Read. With all the book bans happening, this statement reminds me how people collectively fight for the right to make knowledge accessible. Read and sign. (h/t Sara Ahmed on the bird app) uniteagainstbookbans.org/freedomtoread/
Character MacKenzie McHale from TV show Newsroom holds a sign that says "It's Not" in a crowd.
America is certainly not the greatest country in the world... But one thing it has going for it is our ability to seek independence and fight for each other to get closer to freedom. On this 4th of July, here are some ways I celebrate/resist.
Tech can be a tool for justice. When we approach it with that lens, how might we educate kids differently? How do our conversations with them shift? "Screen time" is a tired trope. I'd love to focus dialogue on how/when/why/where.
Marginalized (gender or sexuality queer, religious minority, disabled, immigrant) KIDS need/utilize social media communities to recognize they're not alone.
Thanks for the invite
As a tech teacher/lover I find so much of my life is about 1) acknowledging the harm one might encounter online 2) conveying how any vehicle can give you access to danger AND to life giving/saving/restoring care. We need quality tech integration/lessons. Curious how Bluesky might be different
