No, it's a switch. But in type 2s the switch is in the A cab, as opposed to in the passenger area

Yeah. On type 2s, the pantograph in the center collects power, and the off center one is the ice cutter. I've never seen one up close but near as I can tell it's just got grooves cut into it. I've heard traction power really pushes ro limit their use because they cause a lot more wear on the line
If you're on a train and there's violent merging, likely ice. When its dark out the arcing will light up the surrounding area like lightning.
Yeah, I've heard none of the lrv's came with ice cutters. Trains would just come to a stop wherever there was ice on the caternary. When the green line opened none of the type 2s had them so they'd have to run type 1s down to keep ice off.

This makes the Jan 23, 2026 action the largest strike in Minnesota History, and depending on which number you use, 3rd in American History after the massive national strikes of 1919, or the Great Railroad Strike of 1922. I note with extreme interest that mainstream media didn't report these facts.
