Thanks for the comments about which species the different orchids are! It was so busy that I forgot to take photos of the little species plaques, so I just tried to group my pictures by flowers that looked somewhat similar. π

Again, while I'm glad I went, it wasn't a great experience. Overall, it was frustrating, overstimulating, and I left with very sore feet. I really wish I could have bought a photographers/small group early-bird pass and been able to take some better pictures of the wider exhibition.

An area inside the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew Gardens during the Orchids exhibition. The whole area is packed with dense foliage. In the centre of the photo is a large gate covered in pink flowers. Red spherical lanterns hang from the ceiling leading up to it. The bottom half of the gate is obscured by a dense crowd of people.
- This was most noticeable at the giant flower gate by the gift shop (see photo). I'm still mad about it
- The only good photos I took were closeups of individual flowers. Even that was hard due to the crowds
- I was jostled around so much
- It took almost an hour to get through

- There were regular logjams at doors and good photo spots
- All of this resulted in being both pushed prematurely through the exhibition and also frequently stuck, which felt incredibly frustrating
- Some photos were near impossible to take because certain areas were so clogged with people

- Because of that, there was no easy way to exit other than the end of the exhibition, with no real way to turn back
- The glasshouse is set up like a group of interconnected smaller ones with doors between them
- The paths aren't very wide in this glasshouse
- It was horrendously busy

The orchids were beautiful and there was a wide range of species and colours. I'm glad I was able to see them. But, the experience of going through the glasshouse soured it.

A busy road is hemmed in on either side by some moderately tall buildings: on the front-left some 3 & 4 storey houses, on the back-right some similar houses and blocks of flats. Above the buildings is a striking sunset. It's early evening, so the sky is soft, pale blue tinged yellow towards the bottom. A large, dense cloud dominates the centre of the view, and a large bank of fluffy, more diffuse clouds fills the top right corner. The bottoms of the clouds are bright reddish-orange, and the rest of the clouds range in colour from bold peachy coral to a soft greyish lavender.
I visited the Kew Gardens Orchid exhibition today. I'll post some photos tomorrow after I've edited them with fresh eyes. In the meantime, have this pretty sunset picture from my journey home.

The beginnings of a light to dark grey gradient crochet shawl. The shawl uses lots of puff stitch clusters and has lots of texture and layering from front- and back-post stitches. Above the shawl is a small, scruffily wound ball of pale grey yarn. On the right is a bright red and white Prym ergonomic 3.5 mm crochet hook. The project sits on a brightly lit, shadow mottled white background and casts a stark shadow on the surface.
Here's a better photo of the start of the shawl. Progress is slow-going; I've ripped back more than once as this pattern leaves no room for errors. It'll be so pretty once it's done though π§Ά
