I literally had this same experience regarding a job position where games weren’t deemed important for a media studies research and education department and been branded as the “games guy”
In my lifetime, somehow the majority of people constantly believe that “we can save people by bombing them” even against multiple *recent* cases contradicting this - and that’s even presupposing that “we” are somehow entitled to “save them”

Maybe it’s because I’m a colonial historian but so many of these white nation states seem to behave exactly like they did in the 19th century: ‘your leaders aren’t right for you,’ ‘we’re only killing you/colonizing you/installing puppet leaders for your own good’

In retrospect it’s weird how the equivalent to “Rhodesia and French Algeria and apartheid South Africa are good and should be protected at all costs and have a right to exist” has been the mainstream position wrt the entity since the 1950s.
