Afffirmative action for white men goes back before the founding of this nation. DEI was an attempt to broaden the pool and level the playing field a little bit after centuries of exclusion. And then the longterm a.a. beneficiaries had a backlash meltdown, and here we are.

On Tuesday I watched GATZ, at The Public Theatre, and tonight I watched The Apartment (Billy Wilder, 1960) and both of them deliver a final line that’s utterly devastating and draws all the tears. It’s just masterful theater and directing.
