I am a postdoc in a different field (cosmology) but most of my stuff is numerical. I gave a look, happy to review it. My GitHub username is marcobonici, if you ok with that.

A screenshot of the landing page for Reflect Orbital, promising "Sunlight on demand" in large, friendly orange letters.
Well I, an astronomer, can obviously think of no downsides to a company promising to launch a constellation of reflective mirrors into low-Earth orbit to increase daylight for folks on the ground.

This is incredible. $30 per paper in practice. That would mean the entire arXiv would cost about $6m/year based on the 2023 usage report. RLUK puts UK payments to journals alone at about $250m www.rluk.ac.uk/strategicact... We wouldn't all be cash strapped and losing jobs if we didn't waste so much.

vscode and Julia code drawing epitrochoid and equations using Typst
Luxor.jl can now add #typst text - including equations - to drawings. Useful for those with latex allergy 😉 Big thanks to Jakob Peters for his hard work! 🙏

Hello Friends!
I'm on the job market now!
I have a oodles of knowledge for all the software performance engineering tricks in Rust, Julia and other systems languages and would love to work with teams that are looking to skill up in those respects, from back ends to big data crunching!

Oh, this post from earlier today is missing the #julialang tag (because I forgot it).
So if you work with Lie groups somewhere, maybe consider checking out our new package LieGroups.jl!

A meme offering a critique of a growing trend in software development. The image specifically targets individuals who, instead of optimizing their code, intentionally do not spend time trying to write efficient implementations. They then highlight the poor performance of this code, subsequently replace it with a neural network solution, and claim significant performance improvements—thereby presenting themselves as highly competent.
It's that time of the year again.

Renormalisation is a central concept in modern physics. It describes how the dynamics of a system change at different scales. A great way to understand and visualise renormalisation is the Ising model
(some math, but one can follow without it )

NSF Grant Termination Information Collection Form
Please use this form to submit information identifying specific NSF grants that have been cancelled for any reason after January 20, 2025.
We are tracking these grants to increase transparency, organize affected PIs, and facilitate responses, including via litigation. Please share the form as widely as possible with your networks.
We are actively building a pipeline to organize these terminations and will soon have a tracker akin to our NIH grant tracker at https://airtable.com/appjhyo9NTvJLocRy/shrNto1NNp9eJlgpA
WE WILL NOT DISCLOSE THE IDENTITY OF ANYONE WHO USES THIS FORM TO PROVIDE INFORMATION. We will keep your identity confidential.
These resources are maintained by Noam Ross of rOpenSci and Scott Delaney of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, with input and support from additional volunteers. For any questions, please contact Scott Delaney on Signal (sdelaney.84).
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE!
🚨Report your NSF grant terminations! 🚨
We are starting to collect information on NSF grant terminations to create a shared resource as we have for NIH. The more information we collect, the more we can organize, advocate, and fight back! Please share widely!
