It would have quickly devolved into pro-Harris vs not-Harris with accusations thrown.

Under the circumstances, a convention would have divided the Dem party, and any candidate, Harris or not, would have been damaged.

The problem was Biden's running again.

Harris ran as good a campaign as she could (a couple missteps, like her answer on The View).

What she could not surmount is that she's not all that as a candidate - she did poorly in the 2020 primary.
