Board Game Hot Takes Podcast

I played this a couple weeks ago and a friend asked “is this expansions literally just a board? I wonder if that’s why they called it Bordeaux?”

Mind blown.

I think it's fun just to explore the conversation when you know something. Personally I like reading reviews of board games, media, and other things more after I've experienced them than before. Consuming reviews in advance usually feels like it spoils the experience more often than not.

It was actually quite difficult to get started for us also. We had to do a lot of rules checks the first several rounds. The prelude scenario helps get you started though. I’d say it’s worth the effort.

Earthborne Rangers doesn’t look like much in pictures but it feels like exploring an immersive and interactive world.

Some combination of Vantage with more cohesion and Arkham Horror with less guardrails.

I’m working on my list this weekend. With international travel I’ll try to pack about 6 games in one box.

February plays. A very nice month for board games.

This game had no right to be so boring.

Oh wow - I forgot about that episode! Glad it got some love there. I remember when we first reviewed it (back in episode 5) Chris wasn't a fan. I'm glad he came around.

The Modular Board is my favorite way to play Scythe. you should try it!

Kidding of course but I bet that episode’s going to beat listens for a standard review episode based on the timing. Love when that happens accidentally.

It’s really good. Then you can start kicking by butt on BGA with that as well.

I haven’t intentionally watched a single video of him for around 14 years. His nonsensical gibberish and the hypnotic affect it has had on our braindead population disgusts me. Don’t plan to start tonight.

If you’re up for a heavy game it doesn’t get better than Gaia Project. This is a great deal for the bundle.

It's kind of a buyers market right now so unless you think you're getting a ridiculous value just ask the sellers to take care of the stuff that seems critical and they probably well. Again... that's in the US. I don't know Canadian real estate at all.

The inspector is there to find you reasons to ask for fixes or discounts on the home price. Ask the seller to fix if you want or for reasonable compensation for the fixes if you prefer that. You might have just found yourself 5K in refunds. At least that's how it works in the US.

Even in the US I hadn’t seen any trailers and went into the movie completely blind. Just a cool looking font on the placard when I went with friends to the theater with no idea what would be playing. We picked it and what a cool surprise!

This is the classic one. I don’t know what’s changed with the new version but I hope they kept the artwork because it’s great.

Finished out the evening with Scout. What a gem.

Finally got to try The Networks by @gil.hova.net tonight. Really fun drafting game with a great sense of humor.

It's good! I think I'd prefer to play it over the Tuscany board anytime. We'll probably feature it on the show soon since Chris and I have both had a chance to play it.
