Chotiner: You've made the claim that no one has ever fed you in your life.
My Cat: Maow.
Chotiner: Yet there's food in your dish right now.
My Cat: Maow.
Chotiner: Let's change the subject to the ripped-open bag of sandwich bread on the floor.
My Cat: Maow.
Chotiner: I have read different things.

One grandpa was a bridge-building engineer, and the other was a train-driving engineer.

I…literally have no other options? The job market is BAD, and I am unqualified for everything
I did not scream, throw things, or quit my job today, despite really really really wanting to do all of that.
Please clap.
I would simply get 100000000 emails per day asking for grade updates. (I already get 10000 emails per day asking for clarification on grades.)
We literally have to use the LMS for early alert and academic coaching purposes. Also I will not be doing math.
I do think it's important that students know their standing in a class, but also I wish I could just hide the whole gradebook from them until midterm and then again until finals. Up-to-the-second grade info is making all of us insane.
It usually goes super well! The last few years have been increasingly difficult, though, as reading levels drop and student engagement disappears.
I also learned that I will never be teaching Bloodchild again. I don't think I have the mental or emotional fortitude to continue trying to convince 18-year-olds that the story does make sense, encountering new ideas is beneficial, and reading comprehension is important.
I'm teaching Bloodchild today, and I learned two key things about my students' generation:
1) they don't have to watch birth videos in school anymore
2) they have been spared the "spiders will lay eggs in your face" urban legend (until I told them in class)
Tacky!
The thing about gender is that it’s not the same as sexuality.
As a trans nonbinary/genderfluid person, I am literally only ever gay.
😂😂😂
I had a dream last night that I finished the first draft of my book while backstage at a Weird Al concert.
Here you go!
Aww thanks! 🥰

I like the physicality of a stack of things I’m using for research, but I’ve also gotten used to my iPad being one of the stacked things.
We can’t possibly use it until we slow down and study it!
Artificial Intelligence: How Machines Think by F. David Peat, 1988 edition
I’m so outrageously excited to read this 1988 book about AI 🤩🤓
Jury twins!
I had jury duty today, but after 4 hours it turned out that they didn’t need any jurors at all. Hooray for doing my civic duty by sitting still and reading a book! 🇺🇸📚#whatprofessorswear #whatjurorswear #juryduty
I do that kind of deep dive research, too! I’ve learned so much about Korean geography and architecture. Oh and naming conventions!
