happy new year
live without fear
make love clear
the tired old year
wrapped up in its box
is now laid to rest
as a shiny bright new one
springs out of the clocks

Great podcast and conclusion: Even though Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis might not be necessarily scientifically based, it still invites/provokes people to delve deeper into communication understandings with people of other cultures/language @superlinguo.bsky.social open.spotify.com/episode/0TiM...
Funding crunch increases risks of violence, danger and death for refugees
Deep funding cuts are removing critical support for the worldβs most vulnerable refugees.
They now face even greater risks of abuse, poverty, being forced to return home to danger or the prospect of new perilous journeys.
Great news for international protection of refugees! Switzerland is set to restart its refugee resettlement program, aiming to resettle around 45 refugees in late 2025, with plans to increase to 400 annually by 2026-2027.

The world must not turn away. Ukraineβs people need continued global support to survive, recover and rebuild.β¨
Now is not the time to give up on the people of Ukraine.
Ukraineβs neighbours have shown compassion and commitment. Theyβve supported refugees by including them in national systems.β¨Many want to return home, but only 5% plan to do so soon, waiting for security, housing and economic stability.
Despite challenges, UNHCR has helped millions by providing shelter, cash assistance and emergency support to frontline communities. But funding is running out, threatening life-saving aid when itβs needed most.
Landmines and unexploded ordnance contaminate one-third of Ukraineβs territory.
The war has devastated industries in the east, wiping out 30% of pre-war jobs and making return difficult for many refugees.
Mental health trauma keeps rising.β¨
1.5 million children face long-term psychological harm from missile threats, family separation and ongoing instability.β¨
12.7 million people inside Ukraine need humanitarian aid.
The war hits the most vulnerable the hardest. Older people and those with disabilities struggle to access essential services. Many have spent three years in collective shelters with no clear path forward.
More than 2 million homes have been damaged or destroyed. Attacks on energy infrastructure continue to plunge families into cold and darkness, making daily survival even harder.
Today, 10.6 million Ukrainians remain displacedβ3.7 million inside Ukraine and 6.9 million as refugees abroad.β¨
In the last six months, 200,000 people fled eastern Ukraine as attacks increased.
The full-scale war has cost thousands of lives, torn families apart and left millions displaced.β¨
Entire communities lie in ruins and urgent humanitarian assistance is critical.
When the full-scale war began in February 2022, Kateryna, 73, and her daughter Olena were living in their family home. After days of heavy shelling, they were forced to leave and take shelter at a local energy plant, where they stayed for over a month with hundreds of other residents. While they were away, their house was completely destroyed by a missile strike on March 17, 2022.
Three years of war in Ukraine: People need aid now. π§΅
