Today I asked my students who is their favourite female scientist? They need to write a short dissertation of why she has inspired them. What is yours? And why?? Happy #11F

Plant-frugivore mutualisms are ancient!
Fossil evidence shows that frugivorous animals were likely helping plants spread their seeds as early as 120 million years ago

Wonderful figure, but how can be the vascular cover higher than 100%?
You cannot miss this symposium in 2028! One of the coolest events ever!!
I've enjoyed a lot participating in the #CS3 conference at Seville. Javier Galeano presented a talk about the #AcousticNicheHypothesis in which I was co-author and I had great fun with my colleagues from several years ago. Above all, I've learnt a lot! cs3.es/conference-2...
Together with other Spanish scientists working in bird conservation, we have published this letter in @ScienceMagazine highlighting our concern of hunters trapping finches under the excuse of conducting scientific research

Enjoying the last fieldwork day of the year in #Doñana National Park. The marshland is flooded and waterbirds abound. We could spot some rare ones such as marbled ducks, critically endangered. This corner of SW Europe never leaves you indifferent. Looking forward to 2026! #BIRDeep #RarAvis
More than 7000 flamingos were spotted today, added to many other bird species. Not in a very remote place, but in Doñana! A wonderful visit to Veta la Palma that really made me feel very happy and fortunate with this work.
Title of the article and assigned DOI for the publication in Ibis journal
Just accepted paper in
@IBIS_journal! This is the 1st published output of the WABAD dataset, including > 5,000 bird-annotated audios all over the world. A huge collaborative effort led by Cristian Pérez-Granados, Esther Sebastián and David Funosas. More fun research coming soon!! #ecoacoustics
Happy Halloween from Doñana National Park (SW Spain)!

I'm very happy to see this paper published at the end!! ;-)

Yesterday, I went back to Doñana's marshaland after almost one year. The extraordinay flooding of this spring and summer made innaccesible the area by car until now, what is a problem to replace batteries and cards of #AudioMoths. Always a luxury to work here. #BIRDeep

"Más de un 3% de las hubaras canarias podrían morir anualmente a causa de la depredación por gatos, que pasaría a ser la tercera causa de mortalidad de origen antropogénico, sólo superada por las colisiones con tendidos eléctricos y telefónicos y los atropellos".

Following Matthias Rillig's advice, I'm celebrating that the just received evaluation of the grant #BIRDeep (2022-2024), in which I was the PI, is overall positive. The evaluation committee qualified the results of the project as "satisfactory". It's a relief and a small milestone in my career

A great example of how comparative genomics across the full range of vascular plant lineages can be used as a catalyst for gene discovery!
Exciting new single cell datasets for gymnosperms, ferns and lycophytes!
The scale of this study is really amazing!

Hey everybody! @drjuliawester.bsky.social and I have a new paper!
We surveyed over 800 scientists, science communicators, and science educators who use social media.
Conclusion: Scientists no longer find Twitter useful or pleasant, and many have switched to Bluesky! 🧪🌎🦑

Si alguno está cerca de Navajeda (Cantabria) esta tarde y le apetece venir al chulísimo bar de La Central Navajeda, daré una charla sobre inteligencia artificial aplicada al seguimiento acústico pasivo de aves en Doñana. #BIRDeep #Ecoacoustics

Today is the 1st August (school holidays and official holidays at the University) and I received five requests as reviewer/editor at the same time... It's great that authors want to submit their paper before holidays, but the also reviewers and editors need a break.
Sure, Matthew, I am prone to collaborate with you! I have another project in which I collected faeces of birds to analyze their content using metabarcoding, but I'm still looking for funding for this. Contact me in September, please, and we can plan better your future visit to Seville!!
