It's honestly a lot of fun going back and watching those videos too, or even looking at older work and going "I have a better idea of where I'd push things further, even if I'm happy with how it originally turned out" xD

Lineart to show the more graphic idea behind it - breaks and shapes that normally would be represented with a single line using multiple to create more geometry and added interest.
Final colors to test out a method of flats that uses more texture and basic shading/rim lighting
For context, did this as the first line study test where I knew I wasn't happy with how the face looked - the expression was too intense, and positioning/proportion is off. But I still love doing things like this because it gives an idea of what I can take from it to use for the future.
The Flamme piece technically was done on its first pass, where I did everything I wanted with it. I mostly returned because I did a quicker study to practice lines and realized I wanted to pursue it more - so I added it on top for another step. I'm excited to try that line style more!
It can also lead to spending way more time than intended on a piece when working to add things, and cause burnout.
I love chasing interest for improvement instead of pushing for heavy study since it makes art more fun and that fuel helps with motivation. I also struggle a lot with textbooks xD
That moment of finding smaller things you want to add to your process just feels great and is one of the stronger markers of personal improvement to me. It's also something that's a bit tricky, since trying to force it and not finding it can feel like you're aimless, leading to frustration.

Flamme is already a bit more stylized where it really is fun to work with. I'm curious to try it with Risc or Rorik to see how they'd turn out!
Process video - originally was finished halfway through then used that piece to test out a new idea for lineart style

Time for some face angle studies!
Headshot of Rorik made in Nomad Sculpt to practice the software and have a horn model to reference
Been practicing a little in Nomad Sculpt this week and wanted to get a horn reference down to help with drawing Rorik, and ended up going a little overboard.
It's a lot of fun to build these for reference, may start learning some blender basics for a personal project or two.
Time for some face angle studies!

A new YCH will be going up later tonight, hoping to push this style a little further with what I've learned.

Linework for a ref sheet I'm working on, using softer more subtle shapes with more time to refine line quality
Rorik linework, done quicker with more graphic shape stylization in mind
Really happy with how linework is turning out lately

Thank you! I really love hatching where there's a part of me wanting to find a way to color with it. The only main downside is the hand strain if I'm not careful, so trying to find a way to balance it a bit.
Thank you! I've been enjoying testing this pencil brush in CSP, it's really satisfying and has a nice texture to it

It's a lot of fun working in this style, also testing hatching for a coloring test
Been recovering the last two weeks from a tonsillectomy. I've been wanting to get back into doing art again, since I'm starting to get mostly back to normal.
Though my sense of taste is basically gone and may take a few weeks to recover fully. 0/10 Would not recommend.

[WIP] It's been forever since I've done wing-its and I honestly miss them. Doing a test over the next few days, and may try a few limited slots this month.
(I also just want another excuse to paint Rorik)
I still really love this one! It's been awhile since I've done wing-it commissions but they were so much fun and tempting to return to them.
Thank you!
And tbh that's my main problem too, I have fun working in all sorts of styles but then it makes it hard to have consistency when making things to post and share xD
