Very interesting and insightful article. I've always been very skeptical of the "brand community" thing. It's hard to know when it's genuine, and when it's cynical...especially in independent music scenes.

Again not wanting to jump to the defence of SNP, but I'm not sure what they can actually do with that mandate to force a referendum? If the government in westminster don't give it, all they can do is have an advisery one as far as I'm aware?
Ah ok. I think the problem is whether the mandate can be acted on in a meaningful way. I'm not q big fan of the SNP generally. My views on indy have always been slightly undecided (I voted for it in 2014). I can see me going back to voting Green Party again.

I have views re BrewDog. On one hand I have loathed everything about the business for years - the horrible beer, disingenuous image and fostering of fake "community", the scamming of fan-boys through the fake private equity issuance, etc etc. But we shouldn't forget people's jobs will be lost.

FWIW i'm not criticising. I wonder if it's a symptom of the risk averse nature now due to how hard it is to shift albums. Even the traditionally risk taking indy labels are apprehensive about doing something that doesn't appeal to their base. I think variety is better generally, but that's just me.
When I was first speaking to labels, I remember one or two saying they liked my music but already sounded a little like another artist they had. Now, there is a growing trend of small labels putting out artists who all sound the same and have to fit/adopt a very specific defined aesthetic
USA can't even simple sporting events without it becoming some inane culture war battleground at the moment. It is reminiscent of my family's attempts at whatsapp groups over the years.

I'm not bothered, and fine that not everyone will like what i do. Just a bit of an odd thing to say.
Every opinion is valid i guess. Except the one about a percussion hit being out of 'sync'. Even thinking of a beat as somehow 'synced' betrays lack of understanding.
I don't mind Fred Again. But it's very "commercial". So no idea why he listened to, and felt compelled to pass comment, on what I do.
The guy seemed to be very into Fred Again.
In the past 24 hours i've had one lad tell me one of my tracks has "no creative value", and another told me a percussion sound was "out of sync" (it was on an off-beat).
I've had plenty of generous comments, but of course this is the kind of thing i'll dwell on...
