Hey folks! I disappeared 6 months ago, because I’m terrible at focusing on work and paying attention to social media at the same time. 🙃 I’ve had some recent shows and just finished the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. It’s been a wild ride but some new work has come out of it!!!

Thank you! My original plan was for the top to sit flat but I tested my slab before it was totally dry and liked how it curved in. I love how things iterate!

Oooh yours is super cool too! Love the straw concept for making texture!
Nope, no raku for me. It’s all electric oxidation. The finish is all in the way I apply slips, rocks, and other aggregates to the surface. I love soda/wood but don’t have access so I’ve been testing ways to get a similar feel.

Go in the off season! October or April-ish. Things aren’t totally blocked off by snow but it’s also not really green and in bloom, so it reminds you of the surface of the moon.

Sometimes the wire does force a separation between the tail and the clay, but most of the time the amount of clay is small enough that it makes no difference with the shrinkage.

Pig tails are tough in the kiln. Nichrome wire inside the tail helps. It also looks cute if you use Nichrome for the tail without any clay, too.

Oh and I adopted two pieces. A yohen hagi summer tea bowl by Seikoku Udagawa and a hagi bottle vase by Sakutaro (Shoroku) 1st Yamato.

Ok so not kidding - I was there today, and I saw that teabowl, wanted it, saw that it was sold, and turned to my husband and said I wonder if I could fight whoever bought this for rights to it. Then I came on here to circle back with you that I went and it was amazing and I see who the culprit was!

Home sweet home! Wrapped up the show in Baltimore and stopped by the International Teabowl Show in Philly on the way home. It was like heaven. So many tea bowls in one place!!!
