It’s evening time, Sunday if you are keeping track. The last bit of light is fading in the west, creating pleasant shades of blue in the sky.
Jalapeño sausage is on the grill, a tasty IPA at my elbow. My sweetheart is inside preparing some vegetables.

Bow tie piece added to secure a crack in the wood used for the table top. The exposed crack was filled with a tinted glue.
My latest project is finished. A small table made from walnut and finished with tung oil. Most of the wood is 100+ yrs old, coming from a tree that was part of a windbreak on my uncle’s farm. Top is 16” x 24”.

Basic math- necessary. Geometry- I used it often at work. Algebra- I got it but never used it. Hit a wall with calculus. Had to change majors to one where it wasn’t required. 🤨
Still worked out ok for me and a career.

A slab flattening rig. A slab is a thick piece of wood that can be wide and long. The rig uses a router (a woodworking tool that spins a cutter really fast) with a wide cutter that will remove wood to make the surface flat and smooth.
For the most part, Houston had a pass on the Great January Freeze of 2026. My sector emerged unscathed. There were a couple of silly areas on the west side, but nothing serious.
Back to woodworking next week.

Thx for the advice. Cooking something for the first time is usually an experiment. I determined I used too much of a crab boil to season the chicken. The recipe was from a friend and a bit vague with directions. The sausage I used was just right- Chappell Hill Jalapeño. Good stuff.
