I had something I learned about and tried implementing at work that it sounds like I should make a video on for splatoon people given the current discourse 🤔...in all my spare time I'll get right on that

Shockingly few people are saying SHZ, just want to make sure my goat is getting mentioned. Every time I get the pleasure of working with him everything feels so smooth.

I also have my cabal of people i love working with, but i'll set that bias aside (spoiler: it's mostly NAL folks)

An astonishing 187 players got voted into +3 with only 87 not making it. But that means the voters had 274 players on their ballot to vote for. If you spent just 2 mins looking over everyone’s results, the voting process would take you over 9 hours. To folks who actually vote, how do you?

This might be the worst +2 voting I've ever seen what is even happening for all these people to not pass, at least 20 of these should have made it in. I'm honestly starting to think we need to remove voting and have some other form of + access because this is insane #compsplatoon

It all comes from a place of ego. "Oh those guys? I know I'm better than them and of course I deserve to be here but they don't." This mentality rooted in subjective opinion without data to back it up is the default and leads to lower voting %s.

This kinda goes along with the whole mid level discussion going on rn. Maybe laying out my personal experience with competitive teams will help some other ppl.

Building a list of actionable items to actually help you reach your goals is an important step that is often glossed over. Telling yourself to "do better" over and over again does not help

After playing 40+ hours with midlevel, I can confidently say it was the most miserable experience I’ve had playing this game mostly because I skipped this part of the scene back in S2 and didn’t realize how bad it could actually be. It’s not miserable because of overall skill level, because yeah everything is gonna feel worse outside of top level after being in it for long. The biggest thing hurting this part of the scene is ego. I had over 60 tryouts, and almost all of them said it’s hard for them to even get four people to try out with. That genuinely confused me, because for the most part everyone I played with felt extremely similar in skill, and I could easily see these players scrimming each other regularly and figuring out how to mesh over time.

This explains a lot of why midlevel feels weaker as a whole. A lot of these players simply don’t get enough meaningful playtime outside of rare pickups or X Rank, so they’re missing the constant feedback loop that actually drives improvement. Playing against people at a similar level forces you to recognize patterns, and improve through adaptions. Over time, that raises the average skill for everyone involved.

There were so many situations in games where I had to explain why we were losing or what we needed to change to win and I honestly think most of these players would’ve figured it out themselves eventually if they were consistently playing each other instead of isolating themselves or waiting for “better” lobbies. when players actually PLAY THE GAME, the average skill level naturally rises.

This isn't entirely mid levels fault though, I think top level players can do a better job at providing knowledge to mid level players to improve but better questions need to be asked to top players too, all the time I see questions like oh what special is best or how do i play "insert weapon here" these are terrible questions and we need to move on to better questions like "what should i have done in this scenario here" b…

Also, the increased size in hitboxes which includes as much as a 42% increase in volume!!!! Everything dies when you look at it but that has nothing to do with aura, that's just one of the other main system changes that contributes to you believing the wep feels good!

"Dude, this weapon feels so good with aura"

Yeah!! It's almost like thats the point! Every weapon in Splatoon is going to feel better with extra movement speed! The mechanic is designed to give you more dopamine & adrenaline no matter what weapon you're playing!
