NJ school librarians show up!!
Thank you to @authorsabb.bsky.social heroes @beccacoffindaffer.bsky.social and Ed Underhill, we have some slides that can be shared by anyone about this, with particular reps to target. Let's kill this bill in committee.
A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

Thinking of how to use this with my studentsβ¦
Proof your public library loves you: they leave you alone when you're reading, they love when you bring your kids over, and they'll literally let you borrow any book you want...even their hardcovers
Bahahahahahahahaππ€£β οΈ
It cane out good! Iβm notoriously unphotogenicso itβs nice to get a good one.
It was great to see you, too!!!
Good teachable moment ππ€£β οΈ
The USA-Canada menβs hockey game was a nail-biter! Fitting that a toothless Hughes got the golden goal. NGL i teared up a bit when they brought out Gaudreauβs kids for the pic.
Almost as exciting as the womenβs medal game!!
This is challenging and enlightening! I definitely lost most of the plot with the last two or three, though admittedly stopped trying as hard.
Got my call already!
So there's a black girl scout troop trying to raise money to to to Europe but they aren't close to their goal as of yet. Please share this and buy some cookies if you can

So, what about the movie, The Librarians? It falls short in its lack of inclusion.

OMG itβs like they think the rules change From day to day, or youβll make an exception just
For them. Also they just donβt listen to read or pay attention to the rules. Oy.
Oh, i didnβt know I needed a pass, I canβt jump on the furniture, etc ad nauseum β¦
My daughter recommended this one to me⦠is it worth a read?
I saw the Creative Commons slide, thanks!!
Will do!
BTW @ #NJASL #NJLA conference this week @librarianjones.com mentioned how much she loves your books and I agree!! perfect for #middleschool ! I have a group of 5 7th graders who started their own little book circle so I recβd Maybe He Just Likes You β they loved it!
One comment says the library βis full of hundreds of different worlds that you can meld into as you start a new bookβ The other says the library βprovides people access to knowledge and knowledge is power. Thatβs why dictators hate libraries and books in general β
Ok iβm a little offended yet sorta chuffed that one kid said we had the best βlibrary clerkββ dude I have an MLISπ
not one kid in almost 20 years has ever mentioned databases π
But Here are my two fave student comments to why they love the library β the kids are alright π
Paper hearts taped haphazardly to the back of curved library shelves with students reasons for living the library: mostly to the effect of itβs calm, peaceful, quiet, safe, fun, full of books, play games, be with ny friends, ship gym, gain knowledge, etc
Paper hearts taped to flat surface side of library table handwritten reasons students love the library mentioning fun events, comfy chairs, opening your mind to new books, etc
All students who visit are invited to fill out a heart and finish the statement: I love the library becauseβ¦β
A red felt board attached to a white board easel, decorated with hearts and the game title Literary Lovers Match Game, with names of book characters typed out on red paper, laminated and glued to white felt sprinkled all over the board for matching.
Three students, two girls and a boy, sitting in front of the easel with the game board, looking pensive, with more felt names on the floor in front of them, as yet unmatched to their literary lovers.
I also put up Literary Lovers Match Game, and the kids have fun puzzling over that
Beribonned baskets brimming with library books, each wrapped in a white paper bag with a pink, purple, or red heart on the front, so as to be a surprise for the reader. On a hightop library table
Beribonned baskets brimming with library books, each wrapped in a white paper bag with a pink, purple, or red heart on the front, so as to be a surprise for the reader. On a round white library table, with another table of books in baskets in the background, and library shelves filled with books farther back
Iβm a little late posting but did my annual #BlindDateWithABook for my middleschoolers on Friday. Scaled back a bit this yearβ prepped about half as many books, maybe 300? Checked out 235!!! Always a hoot! #schoollibraries π
Librarian and Reading Rainbow host Mychal threets poses smiling widely and holding up his pic book βIβm so Happy Youβre Hereβ next to redheaded glasses-wearing middle school librarian also beaming because she is happy to meet him
I didnβt take enough pics at #njasl #njla conference but couldnβt pass up the chance at one with THE @mychal3ts.bsky.social We were SO happy you were there! Thanks for being a perpetual #librarykid with the rest of us and for spreading #libraryjoy #bookjoy
Oh, how I missed conferenceβ¦ been too long. Loved seeing all my #schoollibrary peeps at #NJASL #NJLA. Iβve been doing this almost 20 years but I still learn something new, make new connections. Always leaves me exhausted yet energized! @njasl.bsky.social #schoollibrariesrock
I like the vibe of bluesky but i just donβt seem to find authors, editors, publisher marketing, book reviews/announcements, and conversations the way we used to in the early days of Twitter. Maybe Iβm not working the algorithm the right way???
It doesnβt help that weβve also lost a lot of the big in-person events like BEA (the professional one), and that there arenβt as many actual ARCs available, either.
Sameβ as a librarian!
It was a great session!
Preach! Thatβs why Iβm hoping we will be able to access all the slides. PS your Luddite session was brilliant! Iβm serious you need to present it for admin and boards of ed. Failing that, may I show it to my vp who is very interested and understands the need to pump the brakes?
If you watched THE LIBRARIANS, turn your anger into action by donating to my fundraiser to support EveryLibrary. Donate at least $5 and Iβll toss a book banner into the litterbox to await a tribute from my cats. gofund.me/9c5f9f290
Also they never look to the next shelf when they get to an end of a section.
