Did you know the Merril Collection holds a real Hugo Award?
Judith Merril began her own biography but didnโt finish it. Her granddaughter Emily Pohl-Weary completed Better to Have Loved: The Life of Judith Merril, which won the Hugo Award in 2003. She donated the Hugo to the Merril Collection! #sff

One of the best things about gamastering a TTRPG session is your head is so full of what you're doing you're guaranteed a break from thinking about anything else.

Vรคinรคmรถinen carves the first kantele from the jaw of a giant pike. Illustration by Pasi Leinonen.
The greatest hero in Finnish folklore is Vรคinรคmรถinen, a mighty warrior, shaman, and musician with a magical voice. He once slew a giant pike and made the first kantele (a traditional Finnish plucked-string instrument) from the pike's jaw and a young lady's hair.

Spaced Out Library, Palmerston Branch, 1974. In the late 1960s, Judith Merril donated ~5,000 books to Rochdale College and an endowment grew into the Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation, and Fantasy at the Lillian H. Smith Branch, now 80,000+ items strong.

You should probably leave Substack. Hereโs why and how.
That's 100% why I created leavesubstack.com -- got tired of re-hashing the points; wanted to make a simple 1-pager.

Comic cover with the title "THE ABOMINATIONS OF YONDO" in a jagged, flowing script. The image shows a broken statue in the middle of a desert, leaning off its pedestal and half buried in sand. Details of the statue suggest it may not be depicting a human. The long, bony legs of an unknown creature creep out from behind the statue.
Five triangular comic panels depicting a fist-sized insect approaching a sitting man, a huge ruined temple with flying creatures nesting in its destroyed upper level, a salt-lake shoreline with a multilimbed creature visible behind a salt pillar, a red rock canyon filled with strange, broken statues, and a violently red sunset over a blasted desert landscape.
Four panels depicting a man, wandering in a desolate waste, noticing an uncanny shadow behind a rock.
I've completed a comic adaptation of one of my favorite Clark Ashton Smith stories, THE ABOMINATIONS OF YONDO, which turns 100 this year! It's my first comic in full color, which was a hell of a learning experience. It's available now digitally or in print by mid-March.

Iโve been a fan of New Edge (or NESS) for quite a while now, and I was delighted to speak with Oliver Brackenbury about how he got into the genre, NESSโs origin story, the community surrounding the magazine, and where he hopes to take it in the future.
