app previews for garden
Our latest presentation was just a few weeks ago by the wildly talented @stevecrosby.bsky.social who talked about *real* delight in software (not that corporate BS). I personally also love the way he confidently takes risks.

Very different. It's like a sports bar with tv's in every corner vs a coffee shop. Both can be fun, I just tend to enjoy quieter, slower spaces more often.
The old community did a great job of self-moderating, giving feedback, and making cool things together
They put so much work into curating and it showed. Something bluesky feeds and algorithms can't capture.
I like the reddit approach of community led curation. But that introduces a like/dislike experience which doesn't feel right either
Exactly. Re-building a private network of friends isn't the move. Even within my own circle I didn't want to spam invites, let alone try to monetize a minimal experience. Would feel like paying for an iMessage group chat.
It's a lot to consider, and more to build. We met so many talented people through read.cv and liked the idea of keeping that alive.
If you're working on something similar or had thoughts feel free to reach out. π±
Our main concern is avoiding the same fate of Posts. Could this be a self sustaining community? (i.e. paid membership or ads.)
Do people want another social app or is Bluesky enough?
Would Garden capture the same community and quality that Andy and team worked so hard to build?
Garden could take the existing framework of Moments and layer on a few (potential) features.
Public profiles: Chronological feed of your work.
Bookmarks: For profiles only. Treating it as a directory of people you are inspired by.
Slowmode: Similar to Discord. 24hr cooldown for new posts.
Garden β a place for people who make things
A few months ago @othniel.bsky.social and I met on posts.cv and launched Moments, a quiet social app for close friends. But we still miss that creative community. (1/3)

Profiles are still up for debate currently. I believe Retro let's friends see your last 3 weeks of posts. A matter of following in Instagrams patterns or not.
I personally love the idea of full Archive control like "Delete All." Seeing as all my photos are already on my device/iCloud.
Delete post = deletes post data from server forever. *poof*
Archive = stored on the database, but only visible to you.
Orignally Archive was meant to function as a user profile, just like Posts kept all your old posts. lol
