Last time Leeds played in the US…a 1-1 draw in Washington with a DC United team including a young Jesse Marsch in the line up. Clearly the commentator only knew a couple of Leeds players and scorer Derek Lilley wasn’t one of them!

Leeds 1 Sunderland 1- 15/3/67- the gates were closed half an hour before kick off with 57,892 inside ER and many more climbing over the walls, causing a Lowfields barrier to collapse and Ref Ray Tinkler (him again!) to halt the game while the pitch was cleared.

Great set of #LUFC stickers this, chuck them a ball then snap them playing with it, much better than the standard crouching pose. Must be from 71 as mentions the Fairs cup win but not the 72 FA cup. Interesting they used the old pre 64 club crest.

Wonder how many other players who weren’t even a first team regular were cover stars in the early 70s?! Only 187 games for Leeds in almost 15 years for Mick Bates, the eternal substitute. Undying loyalty to the cause or maybe a lack of ambition?
